Q: Whats the most you should pay for an ebike here?

I need an Ebike to get around my campus. The Chinese teachers say the most I should pay is like 300 rmb. When I go into town and look at the cost of the actual bikes, they are listed at around 1400 rmb. I know this is China but 300 rmb seems really cheap for an ebike. I have no Chinese language ability as of yet so my haggling skills are limited, but I can make an offer which they can take or leave. I dont want to get ripped off. What is a fair price for an ebike?

Ask Chinese teacher to buy ebike for you. You just come along as 'valet holder'. They'll always pay much less for anything than laowai.

Harpo:

Yeah that would be the best solution but they are always so busy. I cant get them to help me out with other simpler stuff. It would probably take them forever to come shopping with me and I need the bike now.

They help me with almost anything I ask, and if I would buy motorbike, I'd ask Chinese to buy it for me.

Ask them for the price again, and however say 300 Rmb, tell him/her to show you where.

On my Campus, they use roller board scooters with big wheels. They use to run them on Apple Campus in Cupertino some 15Y ago.

300RMB, I don't think so, maybe 500 to 800 is more normal.

if you get an ebike, make sure you check the batteries, the china brand battery has 18 month warranty and the japanese brand 24 months, very common for scam dealer to clean an old battery and pass it off in your new bike. 3 or 4 batteries inside the box you charge can run 300 to 500 rmb to replace

you want 48 volt, maybe 60 volt, 20 amp bike with a least 500 watt motor, 48v 12a bikes suck. I mean scooters, do you want bicycle? Scooter will cost 2700+

Harpo:

No I meant an electric bicycle. The scooters are illegal where I'm at.

Are you sure that the 300rmb bike wasn't liberated from its previous owner. Around here, ebikes are a temporary possession locked or not.

300 is way cheap! I personally wouldn't trust anything like an electric-bike for something as low as 300!

Around here, we'd be paying around 1500-2000. You could go lower, into 800, if you want one of the smaller thinner ones with little power... or more expensive (to say 3000) if you want one of the bigger stronger, faster, ones.
