Q: What's in a name?

I've just picked up my medical report and while waiting for my number to be called, this young lady sauntered over to me and handed me her card. Her job title is Special Assistant to the Assistant to the Assistant Registrar. So many assistants to an already assistant? When I asked her what her job was, she told me that she is specifically employed to attend to foreigners and seek feedback on service levels. Her English was passable, albeit a little jittery. Has anyone come across such job titles? Or any job titles you wouldn't normally see back home?

I looked into it. Well i had my assistant do it. She asked her assistant's assitant who said it was completely valid.

But really titles here are thrown around like nothing else. When I was teaching I had a lot of engineers as students. They were entry level technicians in the factory. I was given the title once of manager when I didnt do anyhting but manager my position, and my director didnt actually direct anything.

This is the more about the phenomenon of the face culture. Giving titles build up people who can then say there are whatever position. It works for them I guess.

Its the same as someone from any country that labels themself an entrepreneur or CEO of their start up... they arent wrong, but any successful entrepreneur is a CEO and any successful CEO isnt running a startup

Yeah yeah, maybe the title Emperor Bossman would suffice?

Chinese love the businessworld, and there have been loads of long, overemphasized titles appearing for pencil-pushers in the west, too.

A: "... through ..."?  Only "through" comes to mind is "Shenzhen agent can connect you with an employer, who's authorized to hire waigouren ... and can sponsor Z visa." It's not like every 10th person you meet in Shenzhen's hood can sponsor work visa ...  The only way to change from student to labourer visa is just a regular way by: 1. Finding an employer, who'll apply for an Invitation letter; 2. Exit China and apply for Z visa in your home country's Chinese embassy; 3. Enter China in 30-days after Z visa was stamped into your travelling instrument ...As I am aware, you won't be able to switch to Working permit by remaining in China....,so make ready for a return to your home .... -- icnif77
