as with any crime it depends on the situation, you might be kicked out of the city where you live...maybe deported from the country...worst case is execution but its a rare punishment.

There is possibility of confiscation of assets, so most corrupt officials will make sure to hide all they embezzle...
living in my apartment block there is an ex manager of a local company who was caught for stealing millions from his company, he went to jail for several years but now is living back in a normal apartment...everyone knows he has millions of yuan somewhere, guess he is waiting until people stop watching....

You're all wrong. Hu Jintao would show up personally to give you a pat on the back.

That's a double edged sword, if you want to do business in China you MUST pay off everyone involved or NOTHING gets done... So I think it isn't so much the foreigner is corrupt so much as it's the local officials, police, etc, that are corrupt and the foreigners are forced into paying them to get anything done (simply put, to get them to simply do their jobs you must pay them).

As long as you're not siphoning millions from the Chinese government, you'll probably get your visa cancelled, you'll be permanently forbidden to enter the country and finally you'll be sent on the first plane home.

Oh, also, probably a massive fine.
