Q: Whats the scariest incident that has happned to you in China?

Last night I was walking with a girl and I was going past another girl that was crying.I stopped to ask why she was crying. She said her friend was taken away and she had no place to go. She was crying in a telephone box. So she comes out and I give her  a little hug and a cab pulls up and three big black guys get out, rush towards me. These guys were over 6' and about 4' wide. I'm thinking phuk me, this aint going to end well. No way I'm getting threw 3 guys this big. I also realize that I have my arm around the crying girl and they can't see the girl I'm with, because she's now standing in the phone box.

The crying girl turned around and hugged the closed guy coming at us, said something. The guy looked really serious. So he reaches over the crying girl and slaps my hand and nods. I thought that was pretty cool. I wasn't scared but I was wondering where the camera was for the news coverage. I could almost see it, foreigner found tied in knot.

So what scary things happen to you,,, in China ?

Might not be a good idea to touch girls  you do not know, let alone hug them especially in light of what happened in Xuanmen (U.K. guy).

I went from the airport last year with a can and fell asleep, he woke me up just outside my hotel but the price was more than 400rmb. So of course I refused to pay, it was a legit cab and I took my friend there just 1 hour before that from the same hotel to the airport for about 126.

Since I cannot speak Chinese I just said no to him and refused to pay the amount of money he was demanding. We got into a huge argument and he lowered the amount down to 350 but refused to go lower.

Then I just but my feet up in the back seat, and started to play with my iPad. He got more and more angry but I just told him what price I would pay, but still he refused. Then after a while he starts hitting me and scratching my arms and to throw things at me, so naturally I respond in hitting back, when that didnt help I screamed for help outside the window and tried to get out but he locked me inside the care and started to get out.

Here I really thought that I was a goner but I somehow managed to scrawl out of the cab and then have a very angry screaming Chinese man after me for about 30 minutes. Then he went back to his car and started to look for me in the car instead. Once it was safe I ran into the hotel and hid behind the reception, xD

crimochina:

no offense but you really need to learn how to protect yourself in a situation.  once he tells you 400 get the puck out of the cab. when engaged in an argument. place yourself in a secure alert position dont  kick your feet up and play with your ipad. your not in kansas anymore dorothy. keep alert stay safe. (dont get me started on sleeping in the cab)

About 1 week ago after a drunken bar-hopping night we were eating hot-pot at 5am and I spilled hot-pot sauce on my iphone and killed it.

I was freaking out....as I don't have a back-up and didn't know where to fix it.  Not having a working phone is almost as scary as losing my passport.

I thought I would have to buy a crappy phone and wait until I went home to fix it.

But the next day the gf came to the rescue and took me to a hole-in-the-wall shop and the guy there fixed it for 200.....and all was well again.

OK....maybe lame but scary to me.

if you get iphone wet do not turn it on. towel dry it and stick it in rice, the rice will help suck out any water, but leave it for a long time to dry out.

Well everyone knows the spider story, and although that's scary, there's one other incidence I can think of off the top of my head.

Last semester, in September or October (I can't remember) I was asked to do some modeling. It was for winter jackets and hiking gear, so don't get your hopes up. There aren't really any female foreigners here, I suppose that's why they asked me, and at the time there were no male English speaking expats (at least not as their first language) in the city, so they asked a young Indian man to be the male model. Before we went to the site, we had to pick him up. Well, he wasn't ready, so we were going to wait in the car, but he invited me and my Chinese female friend upstairs. It made me really nervous (her too) but I suppose he was just trying to be hospitable? He asked us if we wanted something to drink while we sat on his bed. His apartment was a tiny one room deal and there was nowhere else to sit. Nothing happened, but it had me on edge the whole time.

The only reason I went up there is because my friend went up there. I guess she didn't want to be rude, but I should have tried harder to convince her otherwise. I certainly wasn't going to let her go alone. Then we went on a drive outside of town for the photo shoot. In the end, I got paid 500 RMB for a few hours of posing in a winter jacket and pants outside in warm weather. At least it wasn't too hot that day. I also got a free lunch and backpack. I found out that he only got a free backpack because his boss made him do the photo shoot so he didn't get paid.

If I had been alone, of course I wouldn't have gone. But I wasn't letting my friend go alone, that's for sure. I'm short, but I'm not some frail little girl. I'd fight him. yes

I hadn't been in China very long and started dating this girl.  She was a student at another university in the city and was always meeting with her "teacher".  I later found out that he was a post grad doing doing some teaching there, not actually a qualified teacher.  Anyway it turns out that this guy liked this girl too and was telling her to stay away from the foreigner and all that.

So we're walking down this lane one night and she leaves my arm and walks towards this guy, I didn't really have time to ask where she was going before this guy pushed her to the ground!   I didn't know it was the guy mentioned above, I had no idea wtf was happening.  Anyway it all kicked off as can be imagined and before I know it, I'm surrounded by a crowd of Chinese (because as we know, the Chinese love to watch anything).   At that time my Chinese sucked,  I had no idea what this guy was saying but the girl later told me he was basically gathering Chinese hatred towards foreigners, telling the crowd how they should kick foreigners heads in and what not.  That pretty much what I thought he was saying and I was sh1tting myself in this little lane at night surrounded by people just itching to beat up a foreigner.

What happened in the end was just ridiculous, I got away safely and what not, but that moment was probably the most scary time for me.
