As the State grants you permission to marry, so the State can grant you a divorce. Religion, naturally, has nothing to do with it.
China is officially an atheist country, but you are free to exercise your religion. Religion will not prevent you from marriage in China. They don't ask because they don't care as long as your not disturbing social stability.

Well how about the catholic church would they recognise the marriage?
They will only recognize it as a civil marriage. You would have to have one that would be accepted by the Church back home for the church's blessing.
