Q: What's the 'thumbs down' for?

I've noticed a few answers that have received a thumbs down, yet the answer provided has been fairly intelligent, or accurate, or valid. Yet, someone has given that thumbs down, I presume because they just didn't like (ie, agree with) the answer. ie, "I think X" - "yeah, well thumbs down to you, cos I think Y"...

Personally, I use a thumbs down on here because the answer is way off topic, comletely useless, overly opinionated (and thus, useless), or insulting. Even with an answer I DISagree with, I'm willing to give a thumbs UP to - if it's intelligent, well thought out, rational, etc etc

Why do you choose to give a thumbs down?? Is it merely disagreeing with the post? Or the way it's written? Or what?

It means being able to show how much you loath a person without wasting time and effort that they do not merit, and I think it's magical.

I live in a world of magic and mystery where if someone gets too many thumbs down, the admin cats will actually hunts down the person.  What happens to said person after the cat gets ahold of him/her depends on just how many thumbs down were collected.

Besides the magical mystique listed above, when a post has more than three negatives, the answer is minimized as to not waste space on the page, and if you really want to see that particular answer, you have to click on it.

When a local on this site says all westerners are just here to screw Chinese girls and because they can't get a job at home, does this warrent a thumbs down?  Considering most people here are westerners?

Otherwise it's just high-school all over.  People often use them against people they don't like.  ( I will not name names)

I think I have given out maybe 2 thumbs downs in 2 months.

I think they should list who gives you a thumbs up or down.....out into the light for all to see!!!  Mr. Cat?
