Q: What's the worst thing that can happen to you if you got caught stealing in China?
Since I'm not accustomed to all the laws of the land I wanted to find out what the worst thing that could possibly happen to you if you were caught stealing in China.
Most possible thing can be happened that is gambling & using drugs.

Do you know what happens to the gamblers or drug dealers that get caught stealing?
I guess it would depend on if you were a national or a foreinger, and then, what was stolen. A third componant would depend on who you knew...
A hand slap for some, jail time for others and I'm sure everybody knows what the last thing would be if somebody got caught stealing.
From the lowest possible punishment to the highest possible punishment. Locked in jail losing face or just a warning.

It was in the news some months back. A shoplifter was caught by Wal Mart employees stealing from their store in a Southern China city. They gave chase when he ran away, and caught him up, and beat him to death.
Is that typical ?. I guess not, but from nothing to die is the range you must consider prior to shoplifting. Is it worth it ?.
Yet, from my observations while shopping, there is a lot of that going on here.
I heard of a French guy busted for stealing a scarf. Was in jail until they did the paper work to boot him out of the country, about a week I think.
