Q: Whats wrong with China?
I am 28 Chinese age and make good income and well educated.I am actually proud of myself but my parents told I humilated them for not being married and I make them lose face in front of people. They told that ppl gossiping about me that no man wants me.po
I make me feel no interested in going back to home for spring festival.I feel sick being in China and have the parents push me hard.
Should I find a way to leave China?
Stop trying to live up to the expectations of others. Family are supposed to give unconditional love. Stop trying to please your parents. What good is your life if you please your parents but become unhappy in your own life as a result. Get some life experience. Travel. Experience new things, new people. Have some short term romantic entanglements. Figure out what makes you happy and do that.
Visco8:
Hey I totally agree! But, really this is China,, family obligations are all important
Strawberry66:
I am actually planning on traveling to the US and some other countries soon. Why not enjoy life?
I totally agree with it.I want to see the world and travel country by country.
frvioque:
I also agree that you should have your own personality in order to take your own decisions in your life, but you also have to plan your future. You should organize your life
For whatever it's worth you're not on your own. I know a lot of people in your situation, either not married for whatever reasons, or married off to someone they barely knew and miserable now. Their families make their lives hell.
Sorry, I don't have any advice for you, you're probably better asking this on a Chinese forum, there must be literally millions of people in your situation, a lot of them are bound to be talking about this now with new year coming.
What about teaching Chinese as a foreign language? A girl I know recently got a job in another country doing that and two others were talking about getting qualified to do it.
Strawberry66:
My background is international sales and purchasing. Will I get a purchasing job there?I do not have teaching certificate. Not sure if they will hire me as there is no teaching experience in my resume.
Stiggs:
I don't know. The girls I knew were studying for an exam to get qualified to teach overseas. Two were teachers in public schools, the one who actually got a job overseas had never worked as a teacher in China before. I don't know much about what is required.
As far as your background work goes... I really don't know what opportunities, if any, would be out there. You may want to look at re-training in some other field if you really want to get out.
ambivalentmace:
strawberry, read an article recently of the state of arizona hiring filipinos and immigrating them for teaching jobs they cant fill and they take care of all expenses and visas, you probably need to take an ielts or toefl to show your english ability and they would probably consider you for the position,
the salaries are too low in arizona, 30k, so living on welfare and obamacare is actually a better option than working, the middle class is dead or soon will be, but it would get you in america.
ambivalentmace:
you can qualify as a teacher with abcte.org or teachamerica.com
Spiderboenz:
I am pretty certain that abcte.org is a scam. I have tried corresponding with them on several occasions... no response. Several of the content pages do not work. Also, the web based exams cannot be taken on a private computer, only on an American educational computer. You can do Teach America, but it sucks. Imagine a class with the worst, most uncontrollable students... Then multiply that by EVERY one of your classes. Factor in high poverty levels and crime rate, coupled with low academic achievement, and you have the TeachAmerica experience. It takes advantage of young, idealistic teachers. Also, the pay is barely enough to live on. There are several programs that lead to online teaching certification in Texas, but they are a bit more expensive than the other two ($4800) but they are definately worth checking out. Good luck, and keep us posted, if you decide to persue this.
I can tell you in a short summary what's wrong with China.
Despite what I think of the CCP (people here know how much I love them), I am forced to admit that the vast majority of the problems in Chinese society, and a plethora of problems there are, are not to be blamed on the Chinese government.
The myriad problems within Chinese society comes from the behavior, values and the beliefs of its people, a people that with all their traditions of wisdom behave in the most atrocious, despicable manner towards each other today.
Since you are Chinese yourself the truth might be painful at first, but you can't escape it if you are a minimum educated.
you have to prove you have a skill that no other person in the destination country has, hence being a Chinese teacher is your best bet.
However, most countries will require a degree in teaching as the bare minimum for this if you are looking for a reputable job.
Multinational companies usually have their own staff for international sales and unless you already work for one, you are unlikely to be hired by any outside of China.
try getting a years work visa for Australia or New Zealand for the experience, but some countries are wary about letting single Chinese women in on their own (actually China also restricts the movement of single Chinese women outside of China)
good luck, i am sure you will find something
Stiggs:
If you have any ability in the kitchen training as a chef might be an option too. Good chefs never seem to be stuck for a job and there are a LOT of Chinese restaurants in western countries. With the increasing Chinese immigration I would assume demand for good Chinese chefs would only grow.
Strawberry66:
You are right,I have to prove that I can offer something special to be hired.I guess I will apply a my client's company help them purchasing from China as I know the products and know the suppliers and prices and speak Chinese::)
Stiggs,I cook very well:)But I do not have chief licence. Will it matter?
Stiggs:
Yes, I'm sure it would matter that you don't have any type of chef qualification. But, if you looked into it and decided there was a good chance you could get a job, and it was something you could see yourself doing, it might be worth taking the time to go to chef school, get some experience then look at finding a job in a Chinese restaurant somewhere overseas.

I feel for you and understand. I also know there's many young ladies in the same situation as yours. And ( for their own reasons, don't want to be with a Chinese guy !?) are looking overseas. I suggest you contact an agent in the country you want to go to. Good Luck
Stiggs:
And start following Chinese expat websites in other countries. You could learn a lot.
Being married to a Chinese women and seeing a lot of her friends going through something similar... I may be one of the few foreigners that understands your situation.
The freedom of choice is a huge luxury in China and many families place far too much stress on their children. There are a few solutions you can do:
1) You can prepare to leave China but I can almost assure you that your guilt will still follow you. The Chinese social system is designed for parents to control their children through humiliation and guilt. You can run, but you will still feel very guilty. I think you would be able to find a job in another country with a proven sales record.
2) Hire a fake boy friend to take home for Spring Festival. A lot of Chinese do this to get their parents off their backs for a few years. Sure, it is weird but it works. In those couple of years, you may find a man you really like and then you can marry him.
Could be a Chinese guy or a foreign guy. Doesn't matter as long as your parents can go around telling everyone you will get married soon and have proof.
3) If you can't hire a guy to come home for proof. Take picture of you and some guy and make up a story to tell your parents. You need pictures so they can show him off to other family and "gain face". Tell them you will bring him next year.
Tell them he is very rich, handsome etc.
Here's the thing. Families put unreal expectations on their children here in China and sometimes it is best to lie to them because of your culture and society. In Western countries, we don't have to do this... and lying would make no sense. But as you know, this is China... and lying is often rewarded or the best solution.
Each year it will only get worse until around 30+ , then they will start calling you a "sheng nu". My sincere advice is to date men with different mentalities. Maybe men from a different region of China or foreign men. I think foreign men would appeal to you more just going by your desire for freedom and individuality.
Good luck with whatever you decide.

Hey,all of are good advices.![]()
Maybe hire a handsome guy back to make their mouth shut up for a while to get a peaceful spring festival.
Nothing is wrong with China, Post a pic and maybe I'll marry you for the right price.
I think people like you is what's wrong with China.
I'm gonna piggyback off of what NZteacher80 said. I know this might be difficult or even impossible to acknowledge, comprehend, and especially accept and put into action....LIVE YOUR OWN LIFE! I'm American, so my ideology is totally different from Chinese ideology, but in every single one of my classes, I am constantly teaching my students how to be independent and how important it is to life your life for yourself. I have friends who cave under the pressure and I have no longer have any sympathy for them. Yes, we all want our families to love us and approve of what we do. Yes, we all all want our parents to be proud of us. Yes, they did give us life. But why did they bring you into the world? Because they had pressure from your grandparents to quickly get married and have a child so they don't lose face and can make the family proud.
I would tell say "f**k you" to any and every person in my family who tried to control or pressure me into doing something I didn't want to do. I wouldn't speak to them ever again, and I would be 100% happy with that decision? Why? Because it was my decision. My choice. And I did what I wanted to do. My family didn't want me to come to China, because they thought I'd go to jail because of the communists (they're ignorant when it comes to China, as most Americans are) but I told them I was going to go anyway, and they respected my decision, because it was my decision to make.
I'm guessing I'm saying all this to say: You only get to have one lifetime on this Earth, Strawberry. Do you want to live it doing what your family, and future husband tells you to do. Or do you want to live your life, doing what you want to do, when you want to do it, and not feeling sorry about it? If it's the latter, then I suggest you take time to start loving, respecting, and honoring yourself more. Loving yourself more than you love any member of your family. Respect yourself enough to not allow yourself to be emotionally beaten down by your family's expectations; and honoring yourself enough to follow your dreams, your desires, and your wants, even if that means disappointing your family. Do you want to be 55 years old, never traveled anywhere, stuck in a marriage you didn't really want to be a part of, to a man who cheats on you occasionally, and have a child that you know need to start pressuring into getting married and having a child because they are getting too old and you don't wanna lose face?
Or do you want to be 55 years old, living in a different country, after traveling to many countries all around the world, having met so many wonderful, and interesting people, one of whom was a great man who you decided to marry, and had children with, who are just now close to finishing college and you are now telling them to take a year off to also travel the world, learn about themselves and other people, find out what makes them happy, and to follow their dreams no matter what?
Which one do you want to be? The choice is yours. The moment you allow someone else to make your decisions for you, that's the moment you allow a piece of your soul to die and you lose that power in that moment, forever. Good luck. I hope you make whatever the right choice is for yourself.![]()
Strawberry66:
Thank you.I love my parents and I am starting saving some money for taking care of their old life now.But Still I make a decision to not marry a man I don't love as they wish.Life probally just once,so live it to the fullest.I have my life plan and so starting my business to support whatever comes to my life financially:) I like seeing the world and I am preparing to get my visa now.If I meet someone I love and he loves me the same way, I will marry him somewhere in the world:)
Maybe there is something wrong with you, not China
Robk:
Sorry I disagree. This is something that usually results in many suicides, bad marriages and a huge amount of mental (and often physical) pain. So for the health of society, I think it is something very wrong with China regarding this tradition.
Hulk:
Here's why I'm downvoting you:
Chinese men treat Chinese women like shit. Beat them, force them to have sex, and use them as a personal sex machine. Is it any wonder why this woman doesn't want a Chinese man?
Take a look at these links:
1. Underage Cambodian women forced to become wives/sex slaves in China. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2833373/My-husband-grabbed-throat-beat-refused-sex-Harrowing-ordeal-teenage-Cambodian-brides-tricked-slavery-rape-China.html
2. Burmese women trafficked into China and forced to marry Chinese men who abuse them.

3. Women from Vietnam experiencing the same thing.

Chinese women know their value. Chinese men don't.
yongge:
You guys are right, sorry Strawberry, I posted without thinking.
Get out of China as soon as you can, but don't lie or cheat your way out.
Englteachted:
Hmmmm, I really want to agree with you. But if you were a girl in China and you were aware of how fucked up this country is and you knew that other countries were better, wouldn't you get out by any means necessary? I know I would
Hulk:
In such a case, someone else will likely get hurt. Imagine some poor sap falls in love with her, but she ended up using him to get to Europe/America/etc, then leaves him shortly thereafter? Sorry, I can't support that; it's immoral.
There's many people in China. But that's not necessarily the cause of what's wrong with the place.
From what I see there's just too many dumb fkers here. And that's what's wrong.
Sorry, but the outside world isn't there to provide you an alternative to the shitty system you live in.
Chances are, should you be given a ticket out, you would replicate a part of the exact same patterns that make you want to get out in the first place, or simply some other patterns that you find acceptable but most people out of China don't.
Which is exactly why most countries won't allow you out.
so, what is your real age ? I do not get the chinese counting. My son is going to 5 at march, but in chinese counting he is 5 now and turn to 6 after CNY ?
Why is that ?
DrMonkey:
You puny laowai is counting age using the formula "(day of birth) - (today's day)", which gives you a number of days, and you round-up that to a number of years.
In Asia, age is counted since conception time, not birth time : "(day of birth) - (9 months) - (today's day)". Bam, you are 9 months older now ! Then, some people seems to use difference of years rather difference of days to compute ages. The formula become "(year of birth) - (9 months) - (current year)", which is far less accurate compared to computes age using difference of days, and round the result into years. So you can end-up "2 years older", computing ages this way.
A very accurate way to compute ages would be using microseconds, but that's an overkill, for most purposes, day is accurate enough. Years, nope.
Strawberry66:
I am going to 29 after Chinese New year. But my birthday havn't passed yet.How come?So unfair.I am 27 Western age.
Marry someone and get out . If I were in your shoes I would do anything to get out.
There is nothing wrong with China per se. Just the people that have been running the show for the last 70 years or so.
