I remember seeing a pair of incredibly smart, good looking and talented FAR beyond their years mixed race twins playing with an iPhone & iPad when they were just 6 months old.  They loved it, could pick the games they wanted to play and actually learned a lot about shapes and colors in the process.

Dang, those kids were awesome.  Whoever their parents were must have been very proud.

I learned multitouch gestures function of the ipad from my daughter when she was around 6 months old...

She knew how to slide to lock when she was around  6 months old 

several of my friends have bought iPads for their toddlers. It is very interesting to see how quickly they learn and there is some great software for teaching things that are actually usable, like alphabet or counting. That is not in China though, have no friends here with small children. However, out in public I think most small children who run around with an iPhone are borrowing mummy's phone. I did once at a cafe see a kid, probably 6 or 7 years old, with the full lineup, iPhone, iPad and a MacBook mini. On the other side of the table his dad was sitting with iPhone, iPad and MacBook Pro. A lot of gear to carry around.
