Q: What's your Chinese name?
Since Chinese often adopt the craziest names in English, when I first arrived here I decided to turn the tables on them and choose something unusual too.
My name is 肥猫 - pang mao - fat cat
I don't see the point of having a Chinese name, when locals talk to you it's because you are different, no reason at all to want to be more like them.
Also I hate calling Chinese people by their English name, when I ask their name I want to know their real name, not some stupid English name.
Chinese should not feel like they must have an English name, no other Asians do this, and we are in the 21st century, Westerners will willingly do some efforts to pronunce Chinese names, not like the missionnaries before.
Won Long Wang, which is hugely misleading as in Cantonese it actually means 'Tiny Penis'.
