Q: When crossing the road, which way should I look first?
Look up first, and make sure a god is watching over you.
I find the question quite fitting ...
My first city in China basically did not have any bikes and motorcycles so it was safe to look into the left first.
My current city is full of bicycles and motorbikes and I developed a habit to look firstly right (but not if the car is coming in the right strip but if the motorbike or bike is not coming in the left stripe), subsequently left and then again right - crossing then the road looking carefully into both directions.
In the place where I live the traffic lights and traffic rules are massively ignored so you need to be very careful when crossing the road.
Sorry, I can see serious answers to this question - so I'm going to ignore it!
how about the more relevant question, "What side to look to first when stepping onto the sidewalk?" Could always be a school bus or police car using the sidewalk to bypass traffic.
