Q: When does the spring festival "peak travel season" end?

I'd like to go on a vacation somewhere this winter (domestic), but i've heard that plane/train tickets are about to become insanely expensive and hard to buy for the spring festival holiday, especially from tier one cities (like Beijing where I am).

Does anyone know around what time is the peak winter travel season concludes and ticket prices go back to being cheap again?

It will probably happen after Lantern Festival, which is two weeks (or 15 days ) after New Lunar Year day.  After Lantern festival, those still at home will have to return to work.
For safety, think maybe 3 to 4 weeks after New Lunar Year day, and train, bus and airplane travel should be down to normal.

Indeed, travel will abate slightly after February 6th for about 10 days but then it will pick up again around February 18th as all the students, in a frenzied hurry, return to their universities, etc., etc., which are starting earlier than usual this year -- around February 20th.
