Q: When the plague spreads

An interesting article from Hong Kong dated November 14, 2017, written by a HKer historian, Tao Jie (pename), titled 'When the plague spreads'.  Translated by baidu.  Do you agree with his obervations and analysis?

…………………

The right wing advocates free market economy, opposes slavery, advocates freedom, especially that the market needs to have choices.

The left wing advocates socialist economy, opposes monopoly, oligopoly, and safeguard freedom, especially human rights and democracy.

Twenty-first century has come to this point --- the internet world is sweeping the left and right out, forming a new hegemony.  Rightists' anti slavery stand, and pro real election hopes are getting dimmer by the day.   Electronic commerce and payments gradually deprives consumers of choices.

Thatcher and Reagan both favor the rise of small businesses.  Today,  multinational companies dominates the business world, making the life of small companies more and more difficult.

Upon the world's turning to Taobao and Facebook, the privacy left wing so treasured is the first to go belly up, with "1984" arriving earlier than expected. There's no need for the CIA to peek and spy on American citizens. The name Snowden is already obsolete.  Today, Zukerberg (Facebook) and the board of directors of Apple have taken charge of your personal privacy and know everything about everyone.

Once, the left goes crazy with their support for Snowden. They also hate CIA,  but they do not hate Zukerberg, Google and Apple, in fact they worship Steve Jobs like a god.

Zukerberg wears a long sleeve grey T-shirt and marry a Chinese wife, compare with Trump's glamorous hotels his image is one of  "I am a member of the young people."   But,  if Zukerberg's Facebook allow Russia to become a shareholder, this huge privacy data machine is  going to be in the hands of Russia and China. Those offshore funds from the Middle East including Arabia can then easily roam the globe under the name of "free market economy", and control privacy globally and personal freedom via this supereye.

Left-wing intellectuals including those new  Neo liberalism supporters can only chant their political correctness slogans,  anti discrimination fights, universal love and inclusiveness nonsenses all day. Of course, the right wing can counter this using mass popularism.

While the West is wasting its efforts in its two camps fight, "money empire globalization" has completed the process of power diversification in multiple arena.

In the olden days, prior to nineteenth century money was in the hands of the East India Company, the British Empire.  In the twentieth century money was in the hands of the oil monguls of the American Empire and Wall Street tycoons. In twenty-first century money has shifted to the hands of political forces outside the Western civilization while the West keeps selling its technology along with its say, piece by piece.

The structure of financial domination has changed fundamentally after five hundred years of dominance originating from Spain, Holland and Britain. The boundary between "freedom" and "slavery" has increasingly become blurred.  United States gets a short-sighted businessman president on a four-year term.

The world bathes in  rage and excitement of  internet network instant messages.

How to stay sober admidst a sea of fools is the biggest challenge of an educated man.

just as a 'matter of fact" thing  ..      I too retired. my 8 hour day had become a 24 hour day.    had no use for the "BOSS"  calling me after hours on my fancy new cell phone that seemed like such a privilege for about 2 months      or that company e-mail address that got filled with bullshit on my time at home. .  constant questions    largely from new hired young ENGINEERS  that were hired at a similar rate of pay as me.  Imagine being a TEACHER, as many on ECC are ....  teaching a kid how to speak English while they are getting paid as much as you, to learn whatever you can teach them.

I, to this day am very happy with my decision to quit ..make an opening for a young, incompetent ENGINEER.

The best memory is THROWING   that 24/7 cell phone at the manager    ...  here you answer it  at 4 am and at 6 am  and at 9pm and at 11 pam

In the end, intelligence only pats itself on the shoulder.

You know now that I have retired I can see the blurry line between freedom and down right slavery getting more blurry.  By that I mean those that still work at there place I retired from seem to be virtual slaves.  More production with less but harder working hours.  It is indeed a kind of slavery.

earthizen:

Freedom and slavery. If you define earning a living as slavery then birds, dogs, fishes, even plants, all have to perform some form of actions to stay alive, this means all living organisms on Earth are slaves.  No free lunch, this is Earth.

A: "... through ..."?  Only "through" comes to mind is "Shenzhen agent can connect you with an employer, who's authorized to hire waigouren ... and can sponsor Z visa." It's not like every 10th person you meet in Shenzhen's hood can sponsor work visa ...  The only way to change from student to labourer visa is just a regular way by: 1. Finding an employer, who'll apply for an Invitation letter; 2. Exit China and apply for Z visa in your home country's Chinese embassy; 3. Enter China in 30-days after Z visa was stamped into your travelling instrument ...As I am aware, you won't be able to switch to Working permit by remaining in China....,so make ready for a return to your home .... -- icnif77
