Q: When will the virus end?

The virus is pretty scary and I just hide at home everyday. I think I will have to cancel my business trip on February. I wonder when the virus will stop? It really influenced my business.

3 confirmed cases in Australia...all Chinese .that 1000 bed hospital they are building in Wuhan will be full in a day.
The death toll is only a fraction of what the real figures are according to some hospital workers.

IMHO this hysteria is unreasonable idiocy. Twas the same with SARS, bird flu, swine flu.

Stiggs:

I agree, there is probably a lot of over the top hysteria going on but at the same time if the virus gets a foothold in populations around the world it will be very difficult, maybe impossible to get rid of and maybe the chances of it evolving into something a lot worse would be greater.

I'm glad to see it's been taken seriously.

edit. Hysteria from the general population I mean, not the way the govt is handling it. Having said that I don't blame people for freaking out about it, no doubt there are all sorts of crazy rumors going around at the moment adding to the panic.

Some anticipated that the first wave of outbreak is around 28 or 29th Jan.

Previously I read from somewhere that mid March will be bad.

I guess it's better being hysterical than negligent!

Stiggs:

From what I've heard and read so far it seems that people are walking around with no symptoms for up to a week, presumable infecting others so you might be right, we could be about to see a lot more cases popping up around the world, and each of those new cases might have infected several other people so they will be going about their business infecting others until their symptoms appear.

2 becomes 4 becomes 12 becomes 20 then 50 then onward from there.

It's definitely wise to be taking this thing seriously but I feel bad for the people freaking out thinking they're going to die if they catch it because that's probably not the case.

I was thinking about the movie 'The Untouchables' when Malone (Sean Connery) reply before the heavy police raid:

China CDC Reveals 30,453 People Under Observation As Germany Reports First Confirmed Coronavirus Case

The coronavirus has now been detected in a total of 17 countries/autonomous regions...

  • JAN 27, 2020

2714 cases now in Hubei, up a stunning 91% overnight ...

Update (1830ET): While China currently has about 3,000 total cases as reported earlier, according to the latest report from China's Center for Disease Control, the real number of infections may be substantially higher, because as of Jan 26 (the update for Jan 27 is due shortly) some 30,453 people are currently under observation for the coronavirus. Needless to say, it is very likely that a substantial number of these people will end up positive for the disease, even as the total of people under observation grows by thousands every single day.

Earlier in the day, the epicenter of the coronavirus outbreak, China’s Hubei Province, is opening up 100,000 hospital beds in an effort to contain the disease, the province’s vice governor announced on Jan. 27. In a press conference on Jan. 27 evening, Hubei vice governor Yang Yunyan said authorities have designated 112 medical institutions to treat patients with the deadly novel coronavirus, according to Chinese state media. They have freed up around 100,000 hospital beds in the province, with 3,000 of them in Wuhan city alone, where the disease first broke out. As the Epoch Times observes, "The urgency and scale of the authorities’ orders have raised fears that the outbreak has spread far more widely than authorities admit."

Meanwhile, in the latest news on the coronavirus global spread, Germany' DPA news agency reported that the first coronavirus case was confirmed in Germany. According to the infectious diseases task force of the Bavarian Health and Food Safety Authority, the male patient from the district of Starnberg is clinically in “good condition” and is being monitored while in isolation. Those who have been in close contact with him have been informed and infection control measures have been implemented. Naturally, the Task Force and the Robert Koch Institute (RKI) have said they consider the infection risk to the Bavarian population to be low.

Finally, looking at the US where so far 5 cases have been confirmed, late on Monday the Maryland Department of Health confirmed a state resident was being tested for possibly having the coronavirus. They say the person is in "good condition" as they await results from the CDC laboratory. Similarly, the San Diego County Health Department also said it was investigating a possible case of the coronavirus. Test samples from the patient have been sent to the Centers for Disease Control for confirmation.

icnif77:

https://www.zerohedge.com/health/ground-zero-chinas-virus-hubei-province-prepares-100000-hospital-beds

The epicenter of the coronavirus outbreak, China’s Hubei Province, is opening up 100,000 hospital beds in an effort to contain the disease, the province’s vice governor announced on Jan. 27.

At least 17 cities in the province have been placed under a lockdown, stranding tens of millions of people amid the Chinese New Year holiday, the country’s peak migration season.

Thousands have been infected with the deadly virus.

The urgency and scale of the authorities’ orders have raised fears that the outbreak has spread far more widely than authorities admit.

Another 24 medical centers will be mobilized to assist with patients who exhibit symptoms and are suspected to have the virus. More doctors and health workers have arrived in Hubei in order to relieve the exhaustion of frontline medical staff, Yang said.

Authorities have extended the national New Year holiday by another three days to Feb. 2, in order to prevent large crowds from gathering, which could lead to more infections, according to a statement by the cabinet-like State Council. All schools in China, from kindergarten to college level, will have their spring terms pushed back indefinitely until further notice.

So far, all provinces and regions except Tibet has reported infections.

The outbreak is obviously a major propaganda win for Xi. Look how strong China takes care of it's people while the rest of the world does nothing.

From what I've seen online people are angry at how it's been handled and probably by the fact that after SARS the same thing has happened again.

About 6,000 passengers and crew aboard the cruise ship "Costa Smeralda," owned by the Carnival Corporation, have been confined to the vessel on Thursday amid new fears that two Chinese passengers are suspected of having coronavirus, reported Reuters.

Two Chinese tourists, traveling from Hong Hong and, originally, from Macau, have been placed in "isolation in separate rooms of the ship's sanitary space," said local media outlet, ANSA

The tourist arrived in Italy on Jan. 25 and boarded the vessel in the port of Savona in Italy. The two have come down with high fevers and breathing problems.

"The cabin of the Hong Kong couple on the ship has been isolated and they are closed there with the doctors. They told us that it is the woman who has a very high fever, while her husband is visiting him as a precaution. We arrived in the morning, returning from Palma de Mallorca. Of course, we are a bit worried. From the ship, apart from the doctors, no one goes down and no one goes up. Someone, who has only the flu, remained in the cabin. It is a vacation that risks ending like a nightmare, we hope to go down soon," a passenger of the ship told ANSA.

The cruise ship has already moored in Marseilles in France and several Spanish ports this week before docking on Thursday at Civitavecchia, north of Rome.

Reuters notes that all passengers have been confined to the ship as tests are underway to determine if the two Chinese tourists have coronavirus.

Carnival shares plunged as much as 6% in pre-market Thursday after the ANSA report.

China has always been an epicenter for flu outbreaks. They're less known about, but 1+ million people died in 1957 due to a flu that originated in China. The 1957 pandemic also killed 70,000 Americans. China was also the epicenter for the 1968 flu outbreak in Hong Kong that killed another 1+ million people. Now they're on track to be the cause of countless other deaths around the world. No one taught them to wash their hands or use Clorox. Winnie the Flu can't control this pandemic because the older generation, especially, are unable to grasp the gravity of the situation. In their minds, hot water is the panacea for all thw world's ills. Not their fault - they didn't get enough protein during the famine ridden cultural revolution and it stunted their brain growth. Now the weathy Chinese have fled to safer havens, while the poor are left to suffer, resentment simmering to a boil.

CDC "Preparing For Coronavirus Pandemic" As It Confirms 11th US Case In California: Virus Updates

Update (1140AM ET): The number of confirmed coronavirus cases in the US is starting to increase at a concerning pace, and moments ago, the CDC confirmed in a telebriefing that there are 11 cases in the US.

*U.S. CDC CONFIRMS 11 CONFIRMED CORONAVIRUS CASES IN UNITED STATES - TELEBRIEFING

More ominously, the CDC said that the new Coronavirus case is close contact of other California case, and was spread person-to-person.

And while traders were not happy with this latest confirmation that the disease is anything but contained, it is what the CDC aid said next that sent stocks and yields both sliding:

*CDC: PREPARING AS IF CORONAVIRUS WERE THE NEXT PANDEMIC

Judging by the market reaction, it appears that algos are not fans of that word.

Finally, the CDC also said at its briefing that it has added four more airports for screening of Coronavirus.

It has just started. It will stay here for a long time. Have you seen the social control being enhanced on "hazard health issue" ground? That's just the beginning. Is this 1984, next stage? Whatever this is, the virus will take, according to international heralds, not weeks but months from now on, with incremented economic consequences.
Have you heard about the UK calling out to its citizens to return home? Thousands of them here in China, and Boris Johnson claiming to know much more than anyone around the world of the perils hidden from the public to avoid, get to know what, social, existential panic?
Will UK people return home? Nah, I don't think so. Too much to lose. The UK won't be able to give the Britons what CHina has given so far.... aside from the virus. Hahahahaha LOL

From zerohedge.com link icniff posted above:

"And while the number of cured cases was only 269, well below the official number that day of 300, most ominously, the death toll listed was 24,589, vastly higher than the 300 officially listed that day."

Could this be true? I really haven't realized how dangerous this is. Why would mainstream media would hide the real figures? It is easier to tackle the virus by knowing the truth than by hiding it. Am I wrong?

icnif77:

https://www.zerohedge.com/geopolitical/doctor-warns-30-medical-staff-working-wuhan-hospital-now-infected-ncov

As we noted earlier, the death of Dr. Li Wenliang, which was confirmed early Friday by Wuhan City Central Hospital, the same hospital where Dr. Li worked, and where he was punished for warning medical students about the novel coronavirus in a private chatroom.

Li and seven others were punished for their early warnings about the virus. Now, Li he has joined the more than 600 other Chinese who have succumbed to the virus's pneumonia-like symptoms and his death has ignited nationwide morning and demands for more free speech.

Amnesty International weighed in on Dr. Li Wenliang death, calling it a "tragic reminder" of how Beijing's "preoccupation with stability" inspired it to suppress vital information.

February 7, 2020

Can China's Internet Censors Block The Coronavirus?

" China's twenty-first-century propagandists can't easily

write the news the way their twentieth-century forebears

could, but they can more effectively shape it. Criticism

of the government's handling of the coronavirus

outbreak can be muted, while criticism of foreign

governments' travel bans is amplified."

by Salvatore Babones

China's Great Firewall -- the website restrictions that turn the Chinese internet into more of a national intranet -- prevents Chinese browsers from accessing Google, Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Instagram, Snapchat, you name it. Most Western news and opinion websites are blocked. The National Interest sure is blocked.

Consumer advice website Comparitech offers a nifty testing service that lets you see just what is blocked in China and where, with servers testing access at five different locations across the country. Comparitech is, of course, blocked in China. Circle of life.

The Great Firewall can't keep news from leaking out of China, and it's not clear how good it is at stopping news from leaking in. Much more effective at controlling the conversation is China's development of "national champion" netware. You may scoop a second-hand copy of the Wall Street Journal out of a US embassy recycling bin, but if you try to tell anyone what you read, good luck.

If blocking the news is a blunt instrument, preventing its being shared is a fine art. Netware providers like WeChat (messaging), Sina Weibo (microblogging), and Youku (video hosting) are all monitored by government censors. Even more effectively, they monitor themselves.

If you're frustrated by the idea that FacebookTwitter, and YouTube have "community standards" that limit what you're able to share on their platforms, don't even think about China. American netware companies may sometimes get annoyingly political, but at least their policies are ultimately driven by commercial considerations. China's netware platforms are directly beholden to the government -- and the Communist Party.

And so when Wuhan ophthalmologist Dr. Li Wenliang privately warned friends on WeChat of an unusual cluster of SARS-like cases last December, he was pulled in for questioning by the police. So much for private messages. Tragically, Dr. Li died early this morning, February 7 in China, at just 33 years old. He was a victim of the coronavirus he attempted to warn others about.

There was no blocking that news on Weibo; some stories are too big even for China's notoriously zealous censors. Chinese netizens must also be aware that most of the world's airlines have stopped flying to China, and that they are, in effect, caught in a 1.4 billion person quarantine. How they think about that, though, is ripe for official exploitation.

China's twenty-first-century propagandists can't easily write the news the way their twentieth-century forebears could, but they can more effectively shape it. Criticism of the government's handling of the coronavirus outbreak can be muted, while criticism of foreign governments' travel bans is amplified.

One favorite Chinese propaganda tactic is to compare the coronavirus death toll to American deaths from seasonal flu. Another is to link flight suspensions to the U.S.-China trade war. And inevitably, patriotic Chinese netizens roll out accusations of racism -- and have their charges amplified by official endorsement.

Opinions like these can be (and are) shared on Western social media, but they don't get very far, because commercially-driven netware optimization algorithms correctly determine that most people aren't very interested to hear them. But in China, where the propagation of opinions on social media platforms is more influenced by official ideology than commercial considerations, baseless charges of Western racism are amplified and spread.

We all live in social media bubbles. That's a fact of contemporary online life. But while we worry about how netware may polarize public opinion, China is using netware to shape it. When it comes to politics, that's a problem, but probably a manageable one. When it comes to public health, it just might cost you your life.

Answer of the DayMORE >>
A: In my personal experience, teaching certificates have varied in releva
A:In my personal experience, teaching certificates have varied in relevance depending on the context and location. Here's a breakdown of each aspect:a) Getting the teaching job: Teaching certificates can certainly enhance your chances of securing a teaching position, especially in formal educational settings such as schools and language institutions. Many employers prefer candidates who have undergone specific training in pedagogy and instructional techniques, which these certificates often provide. However, other factors such as experience, references, and the demand for teachers in a particular area also play significant roles in the hiring process.b) Getting a higher salary than your uncertified competitors: In some cases, holding a teaching certificate can indeed lead to a higher salary compared to uncertified competitors. Many educational institutions have structured salary scales that take into account factors such as level of education, years of experience, and additional certifications. Holding a teaching certificate may place you in a higher salary bracket or make you eligible for certain salary incentives or bonuses.
