staying in china what would you prefer to use qq or facebook because qq is an easy way to get introduse to other friends online also can find some good friends around you and what do you think about youku do you still use youtube ?????????? caz i still prefer facebook and youtube
unless you have a VPN the great fire wall stops Facebook and Youtube

I was never much of a facebook user before coming to China However, not being able to use it bums me out. I got used to being able to look up an old friend to see how s/he was doing. I have had a few VPN's but the one that lasted the most was about a month before it went kaput.
Most of the time I take it like "their country, their rules". Today it really bums me out.
I connect to the Chinese world better with QQ
unlike Facebook, I connect with the rest of the world better
I use to use Youku now for some reason it doesn't seem to work. The others I don't like to use...I used Youtube back home but can't use it here. There were only a couple of video makers that I followed anyways..
You need to PAY for a VPN...I pay $13 a month and its been almost 1 year problem free....surf any site I wish.
Little things like reading the Huff Post and not being able to watch video (you tube links) drove me nuts....amongst other blocks.
Ironically I use FB more at home than here, but at least I can if I want to.
i saw one thing common in all you that u use vpn or some thing like that to use facebook or youtube and you pay money for that OH GOD i never heard about that , that someone is paying money to open block sites in china i`ve been in china for more than 2 years and i am using a software a small software to open facebook and youtube and it works better than anything else ,it works awesome and it get updated automatically ,every time and totally free and i am using it since last two years ,only one time a friend in Beijing she came to china and she needed that and i gave it to her she was also amazed that it was working and it was free but i think its normal for me ,
hope you people will also get one free software like that one day
I tend to use both FB and Qzone... to get to different audiences (I have quite a few ppl on my Qzone that I keep in touch with). I didn't do a lot with FB, but obviously, it's very handy for photos of what my life is like here, where I've been, etc.
I didn't use a lot of Youtube either, and found Youku (and similar) well before I came here, to watch stuff that I otherwise wouldn't be able to (you know what I mean!).
I'd actually prefer if my friends back home would get QQ, cos I find it good for voice/video chat... better than others I've tried - though that could have something to connecting to servers outside of PRC.
I use a free vpn program. its free and great. someone gave me the paid version and it updates for free. I tried to email it to someone and it wouldnt work so dont ask. Its great though, i would never pay for a vpn, especially when the free version of this is just as good as the paid one

Xun, posting names of these things is a SUREFIRE way to ensure they get blocked!!!

Ok didnt know that. The program is in Chinese so I'm pretty sure they already know it exists. But to be on the safe side I edited my answer. but the other guy should edit his
i have to give one idea that use more qq or make new friends directly and communicate more and more with these people you will know many things from them and you will learn how to deal with them because this is china so (learn from them .deal with them ) thats what i learn from seniors in china hope you will try to get my point its not only the place to make girlfriend ,if you will think you will come to know that you have a big oppertunity to learn and deal
I use Facebook fairly often. I went 6 months without it and was sad that I couldn't communicate with some of my friends. I only miss Youtube for a few things that do not get transferred to Youku. Otherwise, Youku is pretty decent. I used to have the international version of QQ, but took it off my computer because I never used it. However, I will probably install it again before leaving China so I can keep in touch with the friends I have made here.
I really wish Facebook and Youtube were still available, but since they aren't anymore, youku/tudou/whatever can sometimes be of use. Otherwise, I pray for a VPN.
