Q: when you first came to China ,how did you feel?
Do you mean my first few days?
It was an almost overwhelming mixture of excitement, nervousness, fascination, bewilderment, exhaustion, disgust,anger,confusion, worry, frustration, anticipation and relief to have landed in a job that delivered on all its promises.

Haha, well I was in my China honeymoon phase at the time so you're sort of right.
When I went to do my shopping the first day I was not sure whether I was buying a bottle of water or acid, since I didn't speak any Chinese at that time. It was fun.

I have a friend who was buying dog meat at the local supermarket not knowing what it was. I think he thought it was beef.

@Stiggs: I ate dog meat in Jixian, Hebei at teachers party. Chinese chap was explaining meaning of every dish on the table, except 'dog's' dish. I was like: 'What is this?' ... twice and he finally gave up ....
It tasted similar to venison or older cow's beef (chewy). I'd say, nothing special.

Oh I've tried it myself more than once, I have to say I actually didn't mind it at all. I personally wouldn't order it but if others do I'll try it.
It just amused me that my friend was buying dog having no idea what he was eating. When he found out he stopped buying meat at that counter.

Better dog than 'jian' (big moth larvae) from salad bar

We have it in my Wal-y, beside roasted peppers and other (Italian) 'delicacies'.... Salad bar is 'self-serviced', so somebody who doesn't know, might go for it ....

It looks similar as fusilli pasta and if you'd drop some marinara sauce on the top, it would look the same. Who knows, how 'jian' taste with sprinkled parmesan - LOL
