Q: When you leave a position, how do you say goodbye to your Chinese colleagues?
Let me explain this better, otherwise I'm risking a collective mock attack!
Many people are teaching in China and it happens often that one changes job, school, city etc. Of course, I am not referring only to those who are teaching...But it seems being mobile is more common in China amongst expats.
So how do you deal with it? Do you give some little gifts? Do you simply shake hands? Do you organize a dinner or party? Do you sand a farewell mail? Or you just leave?

In China it's customary to do the naked, smiley face, candle stick dance when saying goodbye to old workmates. To do this you must first disrobe and stick a large candlestick up your.....

Honestly, i've left a bunch of different schools and there's never been a big deal made about it. They almost seemed happy to see me go. In fact one place even had another party planned in the school for later the same night I was leaving but I had to catch my train.
Really, I haven't found any difference in Chinese customs in this regard. Give a gift, have a meal, get drunk, hug and kiss, go to bed, a little chocolate sauce maybe. Just regular goodbyes work here the same as anywhere else.

Organize a dinner and invite your former colleges. That's customary in many cities. Even when graduates leave school, they may do like this. Of course, you may act specially as in your own country.

Ok, serious answer:
If they are friends, I will treat them to dinner and/or drinks.
If anyone did me a really BIG favor, I will give them a nice but not cheap gift in appreciation.
If they were "okay" I will say something along the lines of "take care".
If I dont like them at all, I will either ignore them or, see my previous answer..
