Those that didn't die from lung cancer ended up in some hotpot. The first time I was in Beijing was 1994. 20 years later and it's now it's like next to hell. It's dirty, smog filled and absolutely crowded with cars and human traffic. I wonder why people would want to poison themselves so. If I can avoid going to Beijing I would. 

Meat is for eating. Why buy expensive supermarket meat when you can save money by consuming what's left of the wildlife? I'd link to that story where locals were catching doves being released during a wedding ceremony, but I can't be bothered. "it can be eaten." I've heard of Chinese and Vietnamese getting themselves arrested for poaching pond ducks in the Netherlands. The only way they understood that they were doing something wrong was by saying that the ducks were property of the local municipality. I'm sure they're still oblivious as to why it's offensive to people.

Actually, it seems wild life presence in Beijing is improving slightly, due to reforestation projects. But it seems really fragile.
