Q: Where can the best winter survival coat found?

This is probably more a question for women,

It is definitely getting cold now and time for me to fork out the money for a winter coat. Looking around the metro I'm seeing a lot of northface style jackets and a few puffer jackets, but there is seriously no style to them, and I just can't, i can't. So has anyone spent a winter in Beijing and can recommend a good place to buy winter coats. I feel like the options in Zara and H&M may not be warm enough (and if they are everyone is wearing them). Have you had success with Taobao? If so, do you remember the store. I'm a size12 UK so can't really fit into clothes in Chinese clothes stores.  I live in the centre so can get anywhere within the Line 2.

Maybe I should just get one made. Any one with experiences of this?

I think the places you mentioned are your best options but I would also check out Yashow Market and Silk Market. They stock fake designer coats and some don't even look half bad. Of course you'll have to spend half the day bargaining down the price but if you want to skip the usual chain-store then this may be a good choice. Oh, and don't forget about Beijing Zoo Market. If you're brave enough to face the weekend crowds you can totally find bargain coats there now!

Fabulous. Thanks. Will get in the bargaining mood and head on down.

i got a very good winter coat in H&M last year - down-lined and almost reaching my knees, great big hood as well. Used in snow and icy conditions
