Q: Where can I buy boxes and packing material in Shanghai?

As I'm going to move out from Shanghai soon, I would need to buy boxes and other material to pack things.

Ok so the best cost effective way to going about this is to ask someone at a big store such as walmart or carrefour etc., They get shipments in everyday with big boxes that they will throw away anyways. Whenever I had to get boxes I never bought mine I just went to the store and asked someone in charge of the logistics there I'm sure if you ask them politely and you give good reason as to why you need them they will be happy to give you a few that they have in the back. You are afterall a customer or that's what they think you may be and one of their priorities is to please the customer!

Many local moving companies provides boxes, 10 RMB per box.  You can get them deliver to you boxes even if you don't get them to move for you.
