Q: Where can I buy cheap prescription glasses in Beijing?

My glasses just broke, does anyone know where I can buy new ones asap. I've heard that there is some sort of glasses market but I don't know where it is. Thanks.

Glasses are cheap compared other countries. Just buy them. I paid 650 for mine, 60 in China.

The place you are looking for is Beijing glasses city 北京眼镜城 (beijing yanjing cheng). Take line 10 and get off at Jinsong. Exit C will get you right on the way. The building will be about 10-15 minutes south. Once you get close, you will see tons of other buildings that also make glasses, including malls. Avoid those. To be accurate, ask around (especially to security guards or store owners) and show them the chatacters. There are several floors of small shops in the building. Avoid the first floor. And bargain. 2-300 can get you a good pair. You get to choose the type of lenses too. Your glasses can be ready in 30 minutes. Make sure you do a spare pair. Well worth it.

The glasses market mentioned by JustinF is located right by Panjiayuan. You can take the subway there or ask a taxi driver, they all know the place.

A: "... through ..."?  Only "through" comes to mind is "Shenzhen agent can connect you with an employer, who's authorized to hire waigouren ... and can sponsor Z visa." It's not like every 10th person you meet in Shenzhen's hood can sponsor work visa ...  The only way to change from student to labourer visa is just a regular way by: 1. Finding an employer, who'll apply for an Invitation letter; 2. Exit China and apply for Z visa in your home country's Chinese embassy; 3. Enter China in 30-days after Z visa was stamped into your travelling instrument ...As I am aware, you won't be able to switch to Working permit by remaining in China....,so make ready for a return to your home .... -- icnif77
