Is there a spot I can pick up a bus map?

Unless you can read Chinese, a physical bus map isnt' going to do you much good. Luckily there are a few websites out there that you can enter bus number and get it's route information. Try this one: http://www.travelchinaguide.com/cityguides/guangdong/guangzhou/getting-a...

The bus system is complex, but luckily there is a website where you can enter in the bus number and look up what route it takes. http://www.iguangzhou.org/en/bus/routes.aspx

the odd thing is, it doesn't seem to be part of asian cultures to use maps! each time I was with a chinese planning to go somewhere, they'd never look on a map nor online before. they just go and ask people... in the west, we'd have the feeling of disturbing people, so we carry our map with us..
