Sign up with Google Sign up with FacebookQ: Where can you buy the vegetable "kale" in Beijing?
I've tried nearly every vegtable/fruit store I can find, I've tried foreign super markets, I've asked my Chinese friends..... still can't seem to find Kale anywhere?
Anyone know if it even exists in Beijing? Even my friends who speak English end up giving me the translation for Lettuce when I asked them about it. I showed my girlfriend pictures of kale and a wikipedia page on it in Mandarin and she still had no idea what it was.
Thanks for the help in advance!

From what I can tell, there's a Chinese variety of kale (甘蓝) that you can find pretty much anywhere. However, I think you're probably looking for this: yuyigailan (羽衣甘蓝), which according to the google image search is the western one. Regarding where to find such a thing in BJ, I'd say your best bet is at the Sanyuanli Market, which sells more western produce than anywhere else I've found in the city (even Jenny Lou's and April Gourmet): http://www.echinacities.com/beijing/listing/sanyuanli-market.html
I haven't personally bought it there, but I think I've seen it around in the produce stalls in the back half of the market.
Thanks tang-peter that helps a lot! I'm not a huge fan of eating kale but I like to throw in the blender with some other fruits/vegetables for a good energy boost in the morning.
