Q: Where do the boats come from ?
On the news tonight, another 500 feared dead in the Med.
Where do the boats come from? There must be no boats left in Turkey and Libya by now.
Why can't they send the billion buck warships in to save people?
better to wreck the boats before people get on them
and don't give me poor reffregees who once cross a border to safety should stay there till relocated legaly
most are economic migrates like we get in Australia.
people who move for work ...just like internal China.

In China, every boat I see has a registration tag on it, which must trace the boat back to it's owner. They must have the same in Med countries..
The problem is of course that fisherman need their boats for their job. But I don't understand why they can't keep the boats in a secure location under guard and issue "I own that boat" card to the owners.

Most likely old rickety used boats waiting to be scrapped at yards.. combine it with overloading.. explains the accidents too..

This. Charity drives send lots of old clothes, expired food & medicine, used computers, and probably aged fishing boats not up to spec. They are not always used for their intended purposes. I am reminded of a story during the big tsunami in 2004, where Australian charity send medical supplies including silicon breast implants! It was cruel and funny at the same time: Family gone? It was taught that the donor should always be heartfully thanked and appreciated. Wonder what to say for 'some' inconsiderate donations which seem more like dumping of unrequired merchandise than generosity!
