Q: Where do I get the best deal on a phone and SIM card in China?

I just ordered my last thing from China on Ebay. I ordered an unlocked Motorola phone for two reasons , cheap and I have time to figure it out. The charger doesn't work and the phone won't charge ,no idea weither battery or phone is screwed.
I read conflicting stories on everything. Where do I get the best deal on a phone and SIM card? I'll spend most of my time in Guilin, I'll get it there. I'll want a card to call overseas, be nice to have free or cheap in coming calls. I read that with street vendors i can haggle a Y100 card down to Y20 or Y30. Also what wil phones cost?,,,,, basic flip phone with camera only....motorola or nokica
thanks

If you pick up a phone abroad it won't be able to decipher or write Chinese characters, which even if you don't speak Chinese, could be troublesome. It's best to have a Chinese phone in China incase the hotel texts you the address to show to taxi drivers etc.

You can get a really simple, new nokia for around 300 rmb but it doesn't have a camera . I used that one for about 2 years and it was great. I'm sure you'll have a digital camera on you so do you really have to get one with a camera? It'll just push up the price and for what? bad quality pictures?

U can take ur Canadian phone to China.
They all do this, my boss and co-works. Find someone can break the code in a little digital store, then u can use it both in Canada and China. Ur gf will know how to help u.

GF lives a simple life, no phone, no frig, no beer,,,l just bought a Motorola from China that doesn't work. I'm in the process of educating the seller why I won't return it, but he should give me a refund or pay me more.. Another point all the fake phones here-the batteries don't last. I read Customs won't let you bring some back, can't see anything on Canada Customs
My cell phone won't work in china, not quad banded, don't see any SIM card in it
I'll buy one there, load it up.,,can I haggle with aa street vendor for one, or just pick one up at the airport?
Where should I go get a phone?

U should tell me earlier. On my way home last night, there is a Uighur asked me if I want to buy the iphone4 on his hand~

Just pick up a cheap one in the store. Nokia is good, ¥300-¥200 will be fine.

IPhone 4 are not cheap here,, the Chinese clone Iphone is like $30,, I don't want features, i hate tech shit. I have to read the instructions to work the stereo in my hotrod. Too many features and too long winded manuals.

And why if I buy a brand new bad phone is it any of my fault, sorry can't buy that one.

A: "... through ..."?  Only "through" comes to mind is "Shenzhen agent can connect you with an employer, who's authorized to hire waigouren ... and can sponsor Z visa." It's not like every 10th person you meet in Shenzhen's hood can sponsor work visa ...  The only way to change from student to labourer visa is just a regular way by: 1. Finding an employer, who'll apply for an Invitation letter; 2. Exit China and apply for Z visa in your home country's Chinese embassy; 3. Enter China in 30-days after Z visa was stamped into your travelling instrument ...As I am aware, you won't be able to switch to Working permit by remaining in China....,so make ready for a return to your home .... -- icnif77
