What district do you live in? A bunch of foreigners live around Peace Plaza. Also, in Zhongshan district there are quite a few foreign bars and restaurants. Check out www.dalianxpat.com.

BoBo's is the relaxed, "pub" here in da lian. It's quite nice and not expensive.

Then there's JD's - this is the foreign hell hole you go to when you wanna pick up astrayed chinese girls and the average russian broad.

If you are just looking for a xpat friendly bar (not night club), then the main choices are:

Brooklyn (more restaurant than bar, but great hangout none the less)

Friends Bar (Yanan Lu & Chi Chi Jia) was my favorite place to hangout.  They also have great burgers.

BoBo's (Around the corner from Friend's) was nice, but a little to noisy & cramped for my tastes

Those were my typical haunts when I lived there about a year ago. Hope it helps, enjoy Dalian and button up for the windter.

You could expect to find many around shopping areas/malls. The places where they can find something that they recognize like a starbucks, movie theater, etc., Most places you can always find xpats in those types of areas. It's a place to hang out with your friends if you haven't already got plans...blush

A:Going to HK would be the best bet I reckon, especially if you were looking for a church wedding. Chinese weddings are pretty grim IMO - you go to a barren govt dept with souless officials and navigate red tape so some guy can give you a red stamp and a marriage book. You get expensive pictures taken of you both posing in places you'd never go to in everyday life that is somehow supposed to represent your wedding, then a while later it's off to a restaurant where a game show host kind of guy makes sure it's as tacky as possible while the guests eat as fast as they can so they can leave as soon as they finish eating and gave you money. Hell, I'd go to Thailand or the Philippines and get married in Paradise.   -- Stiggs
