Boring answer: Allegedly imbalance of hormones in the womb, especially (obviously) testosterone and estrogen.
Sometimes I look at my penis, and I think "Yeah, that does look pretty good".
I might be onto something.
I will just drop this and go away

Scandinavian:
But people are not animals and Chinese bodies are different buuuhuuu.
Some unknown change in brain cells, just like Italian cheese powders you replaced with American pepper sauce on that pizza.
DrMonkey:
If you read at the link I posted, you will see that the possible reasons for homosexuality can very different. For instance, for some social mammals (elephants, bonobos), it's a way to relax and maintain friendship. For some insects, it's just that don't differentiate males and females, and since they copulate at every damn occasions, that creates no problems to their population renewal. For some birds like swans, it's makes young birds more likely to reach adult age.

Well, human homosexuality is documented back to Antiquity, so that's not a new modern thing. It's not some mental disorder either, when not under social pressure (due to social intolerance for example), they achieve as much as heterosexuals, without being more depressed or anything like that. There are some studies in biology, but it's not really conclusive so far : it seems there is not one single explanation for all homosexual. For some, that can be an unusual hormonal balance, for some, but that's not true for all of them. For some, that *might eventually* a slightly different in brain structure, but it's not really significant and clear enough to be used as solid fact. So I would say, work in progress...
I've originally thought inherited, read genes but they would breed out. I bred cats and see traits passed but how?. I googled my answer because I couldn't explain it. linked to epi-marks — extra layers of information that control how certain genes are expressed. These epi-marks are usually, but not always, "erased" between generations.

Most of these answers are shameful, I'm ignorant on the subject, in my teens I always laughed never thought being gay could be real, Batmans gay,,ha ha.. I think some people are predisposed and other people learn the behavior. I swing the other way.
It's not very often that something walking by gives me a woody, but in China it happens more often, dam those skirts and heels. I'm really waiting for inter-species rights. I want to marry my dog,, all the tax write offs with none of the bitching.
