Happy New Year everyone
As you all know next month is Chinese New Year and I am thinking about getting out of China for the holiday period. I would like to visit some place which isn’t freezing but isn’t boiling either, I can’t afford to go back home so would like some suggestions on which countries/cities are worth visiting in south East Asia, I have Singapore, Cambodia and Taiwan and Macau have been highly recommended.
Thank you and it would be great to get some suggestions as I know everywhere is likely to be busy but I quite like the sound of Taiwan any tips?
Singapore is nice but less than it used to because there are over 1 million recent immigrants from Mainland China living there and they hardly behave better than they do here.
Macau you will have seen everything in 1 day, boring if you are not into overly expensive clubs or gambling.
Taiwan is nice and will also celebrate Spring Festival in a more traditional and interesting way than Mainland China.
Cambodia is cool but you will experience extreme poverty and despite the small size of the country traveling anywhere outside the capital takes forever because of the lack of infrastructures.
Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia, Vietnam & the Philippines are five countries that come to mind that are worth visiting.
Cambodia is nice, despite the poverty... It will be real hot and dusty however, stick to the islands if you don't any struggle. Likewise in South Vietnam... But North will be a bit chilly at worse, with only places like Sapa being quite fresh. They celebrate New Year, so less hotels, but Hanoi will be eerily quiet, and enjoyable.
thailand, Thailand, THAILAND! That's where I'll be. I vowed last year to be nowhere near China for New Year's..so I'll be spending my 45 day vacation in Bangkok and Italy.
We were going to go to Uzbekistan but finally have decided not to and instead go to Kashgar.
Uzbek visa is Y1800. Kashgar doesn't need a visa.
That's about the only time of the year where people are where they're supposed to be and cities are actually clean, quiet and overall pleasant, why would I want to go anywhere!
