Q: Where should I go to get wisdom teeth taken out?

Anyone have experience with local hospitals? Or should I just shell out the money for a foreign clinic?

Many local hospitals have a dental area, see one that does.  But before you sit on the chair, make sure you will be given shots to prevent pain.  Some do extractions wihout using analgesit.

Private dental clinics may b a bit more expensive, but you must be as careful as with a hospital

like a dental appointment, for even the most minor medical procedures i wait until i am at home

the reasons are:

i can communicate fully with whoever i am dealing with

privacy: there won't be random locals wandering in when it is being done

confidence in any drugs / instruments used

i am sure that there are places in China where all these things are taken care of, but peace of mind is also a big factor

bayuvar139:

ABSOLUTELY!!!  I do the same, wait until I am home.

if you go local, a round of antibiotics is not always a part of the default treatment, also local use of antibiotics is sloppy, make sure you get a full supply for 8-10 days depending on the drug.

Hotwater:

Why would you need antibiotics after having wisdom teeth taken out? Had mine done in UK years ago & wasn't given them. Never heard of them being prescribed after this treatment.

I am not sure. I would think a normal healthy person could go through this without getting seriously infected. I do however know of two people (one back home, one here) that had all 4 done at once, and both got severely infected)

You should go to nearest dentistangel. They usually speak passable English.

I had 3 'wisdoms' taken out by my dad, when 10 Y old. He completed surgery, cut gum on the top of the 'wisdoms', and extract the thingy out. I remember, one was 'dog size' tooth.

However, I was 'rarity' among other kids, so I think my pop finished his diploma with live practice in my mouth.

When you find a dentist, closely examine their tools. Talk to them about how they will do the procedure. Avoid clinics. Most dental clinics use barbaric procedures and antiquated tools.

Wisdom teeth? Your best bet is the US or Germany. And be damned the cost.

I wouldn't risk the surgery anywhere in Asia or even other parts of the world like southern Europe or South America (with the possible exception of Chile which has orthodontists and oral surgeons trained in the US.)

Bangkok gets positive comments in the dental field. I have no personal experience though.
