Q: Where should I take my family for Chinese New Year's?

Both my parents, my younger brother and sister, and my grandma are coming to China in February. We're definitely doing Beijing and Xi'an. Any suggestions for two more cities that would be good to visit?

Anywhere that migrant workers are LEAVING to go home!

Seriously, your family are coming for a holiday in the busiest travel period in China? Don't expect to be able to get train tickets or buses and don't expect any cheap flights.

Beijing should be be okay as it will empty. Xi'an will be hell as all the migrants go home and lots of Chinese will visit there.

Sorry to to be the bearer of bad news but they couldn't have chosen a worse time to visit China.

Showed your question to my Chinese wife and she started sarcastically laughing after only reading the headline question!

Come to Xinjiang!  Suggest Turpan and Karamay, where you'll need a coat.

I would suggest to continue west to Chengdu and then south a little to Kunming or Guilin.

But honestly, a lot of people are right on the money. Taking them traveling during this busy holiday period will most likely be disastrous. You should take them to a small town or village and let them experience China the proper way.

Make sure you have plenty of cash ready because the ATM's won't be refilled during the holiday period and so they will run out of cash. Unless you have already bought tickets for the trips it will be almost impossible ti travel. Try and travel whilst the holiday is in full swing. During the beginning and end it will be too busy to travel.

I think you should take your family to QuanZhou City(south of china at FuJian PR near Xiamen) ,the traffic is much more convince during the spring holiday(Chinese new year),also a lot of nice view (construction/lake/sea),the weather is very good during the spring holiday .

You can go to QuanZhou city by air(JinJiang airport) from Beijing to Quanzhou about 2h

/train(QuanZhou station) about 8h.the price wouldnt be expensive.about 500RMB per person

You can stay in QuanZhou hotel which the waiter know some english ,that is much easy for foreign.(438RMB)/night/room with breakfast

A: "... through ..."?  Only "through" comes to mind is "Shenzhen agent can connect you with an employer, who's authorized to hire waigouren ... and can sponsor Z visa." It's not like every 10th person you meet in Shenzhen's hood can sponsor work visa ...  The only way to change from student to labourer visa is just a regular way by: 1. Finding an employer, who'll apply for an Invitation letter; 2. Exit China and apply for Z visa in your home country's Chinese embassy; 3. Enter China in 30-days after Z visa was stamped into your travelling instrument ...As I am aware, you won't be able to switch to Working permit by remaining in China....,so make ready for a return to your home .... -- icnif77
