Q: Where to travel in china in winter?!

-Thailand is pretty cheap, all things considered, as long as you don't eat seafood in Phuket. Cambodia is even cheaper.
-In China go to the Harbin Ice Festival and see what cold is all about.
I lived in Hainan for a year and a half. It's the sort of place that is nice for China, but if you compare to international places it doesn't hold up. I always considered it to be the kind of place that you only go to if you can't afford South East Asia. Also the temperature in winter is somewhere around 20 degrees. Not exactly cold, but certainly chilly enough to make you think twice about going swimming.
For winter traveling I would suggest Yunnan. The famous mountain places of Lijiang and Dali are chilly but manageable (DO NOT GO IN THE HOLIDAYS) Southern Yunnan is very nice. I spent a few days in Xishuangbanna last winter and had a great time.

Taiwan, weather is perfect there right now and it's a great place to check out.
It's not technically China, but ya know, they still speak Chinese and stuff.
If you open the Ctrip website, there are usually some very reasonable return trip air tickets available. Bangkok is a decent destination that can be done on a budget. Vietnam is another option.
South Korea costs are a little higher but return flights from any major city in China make it a worthwhile choice.
Unless you are really spooked by recent events, you may even want to consider a MH (Malaysian Airlines) flight to Kuala Lumpur. Obviously, that airline is in the process of restoring customer confidence and are offering some really good deals at the moment.
