Q: Where's the biggest rip off joint in China? I say Lijiang, what say you?

Lao beer in Dali, Y15...same beer in Lijiang (a couple of hours up the road), Y75.

Qingdao beer in Dali Y8 or 10...Lijiang Y40.  And so on like that.

Lijiang is a shocking rip off joint the likes of which I've never seen before.

In fact, China is a rip off joint...power to weight ratio considered.  Gotta be number one in this respect.  Everything ridiculously expensive.

criminy thats pricey. Did you at least enjoy your trip? ST regis shenzhen, cheapest beer is 88 kuai. damn, i get that its on the 101st floor but damn its shenzhen, the only view your getting is thicker smog.

royceH:

Yeah, we really enjoyed the trip.  Yunnan reminded me of what I used to think China would be like.  The view of the countyside between Kunming and Lijiang is quite often spectacular, especially the mountains and lake north of Dali.

Stone Forrest and Minorities Village (the performance was A One) in Kunming were great too.

Those beer prices in Lijiang were across the board.  Every joint charged that much.

Bad Monkey is a terrific pub in Dali and they sell their own brewed beer, which is deluxe.  And not expensive.

We're glad we went and now it's back to the drawing board to save for a trip to Aust during the summer.

Just could've spent a week in Europe for the same price, that's all.
