Which airlines should I stay away from and avoid?

DO NOT FLY - CHINA EASTERN

Everything is bad about this airline. I would rather swim to my destination.

You Get what you pay for

China Southern could not run on time if it was run by a Swiss watch maker.

However they do try to make up for it.and haven't left me stranded yet

Don't get on a Russian built plane that some of the airlines use as it could be a shorter flight time than a Chinese green loogiewink

In my opinion, China Southern.  Pretty bad with flight delays and cancelations with no warnings, explanations or help at all.  I do not fly with them at all.

on a positive note, Shenzhen Air and Hainan both have a good record with me, on time departures, discounts, good service, and in general, what I look for in an airline.

philbravery:

I got into GZ the other week just in time to wave Bye Bye to my connecting flight

The staff booked me on the next flight and escorted me to a hotel and they made sure I got fed

the next day after Breakfast they got me back to the airport and I continued my journey.

at their cost

I new they had a reputation for being late however they made up for it in the service at GZ

I will use them again

I have used all of the big three and found them far cheaper for international to China than any of the other options  available in Australia. They were all OK and as Phil said you get what you pay for. I have even flown Shenyang-Shanghai on Spring. For 3 hours the squeeze was fine and I'm 6ft 3. In the international flights I always ask for an exit row and have received one most of the time. I guess I usually have the advantage of traveling with a Chinese speaker but have made 2 flights through Beijing and Shanghai without a problem. Domestic flights are often late with BS excuses but I am in no hurry so the delay doesn't bother me although the BS pisses me off no end.

hope I wasn't out of line about the state of origin

I'm not sure which one's are bad at all...but I will say that Hainan was extremely good compared to the other airlines that I flew on before.

worst I have flown would be Ok airways flew on the oldest B737 plane in existence the interior of the plane was worn out and the design was something from the 80's flew from Changsha to Xian with them not to sure where else they fly but I stay away from them.

Second would be China Southern/Eastern just all round poor service.

The best I have flown is Hainan airlines there service is top notch.
