Don't only look at which one is easier to open a bank account, look also at the services they offer.

For me, all the local Chinese banks (Bank of China, Bank of Communication, etc), they have really poor services.

I would advise you the China Merchant Bank.

Don't choose Bank of China. They suck big time. ICBC is slightly better and they usually have more counters open which means slightly less waiting times. But in general, Chinese banks leave a lot to be desired, to put it mildly.

I had China Merchant in Qingdao and its wire transfer service was really good. I have ICBC now which is slightly more of a hassle but there are many more ICBC locations in Beijing than China Merchant, so yeah.

I once heard that ICBC has more branches than any other bank in Beijing. Not sure if that is true though.
