Q: Which is The Best & The Worst English School To Teach For In Beijing?

And before you answer, I am talking about REAL schools with REAL licenses. My guess is that maybe one-third of all these "schools" and "training centers" are bogus because they always try to say "We are affiliated with Tsinghua, or Baby MBA," or some big company in the west but don't have squat to prove it.  ALso consider the following when you answer:

*  Working Hours & Days

*  Salary Paid vs. Salary Promised

*  Do they steal your lesson plans

*  Unpaid Overtime

*  Unpaid Bonuses

*  Visa support provided Vs. visa support provided

*  How long in business?

*  Have you see a real license (original - not copies)

Also say how long yu worked there and whether the company is owned by Chinese or foreigners.

That's a mighty short list. I just looked on-line and found over 1,872 English Schools in Beijing!  I think we can eliminate most of them by their Western Wannabe names like

"Berlitzo English",  "Wall Street Best English", "Happy American English", and check this out "Perfect No Accent English School".   Where do they get these crazy names?

Whatever. Just throw me a bone to chew on while you rant.

If you really want to teach in China be prepared to be exploited and cheated.  I found these tips for foreign teachers that I think are right on the money.  I no longer teach due to all the aggravation and BS I went through trying to find one decent employer.  Had I seen these red flags three years ago, I would have saved a lot of grief and money... http://www.cleverchinacheaters.com/2012/09/avoiding-china-employment-traps.html

Because there are so many foreign teachers queing up for jobs here, I think the schools just milk us for all we can and then discard us like a used tampon knowing there will be ten new resumes in their inbox the next day.

I was just told by a government guy I met at a bar last night that there is a web site and email at the Ministry of Commerce where you can actually check to see if a a company is properly licensed and WHAT they are licensed to do. HE said the licenses are really specific in China - for example you need a different (more expensive license) to open a spa that the license you need for a foot massage or beauty parlor. Knowing this, I would be willing to bet dollars to doughnuts that all these alleged "schools" and "training centers" that actually do have a license, are probably licensed to do something totally unrelated to education.

Yes I am willing to make the same bet!  There should be someone to spy on all the fakers and take pictures of their fake licenses and record their activity to trun them in

I want to add Key Logic to the list of worst employers in Beijing - They trick us foreign teachers into preparing 5 or 6 ppts for "Upcoming Classes" and then ask us to rehearse the class for approval. They also want to "approve" the ppts. They don't tell you but they video tape your demo and then copy your ppt and put THEIR name on it.  They also take photos of you giving the demo. Those "upcoming" courses are then taught by Chinese teachers using YOUR lesson plans and ppts!  If you catch them they will tell you on of two things... 1)  The client insisted on a bi-lingual; teacher  or 2) They client decided they could not afford a foreign teacher!!!   Its BS - they just want to keep the extra money and don't have their own teaching materials.  They also print copies of foreign textbooks and then put THEIR name on the cover. WHat a bunch of thieves!

kevin808:

Yes I have had experience with Key Logic.  The contact person was Alena.  She had me do a bunch of preparation work on their PPTs (she said they needed to be pre approved) for a contract worth about 25,000rmb that would last roughly three weeks.  I did all the work for preparation and then all of a sudden she dumped me only for me to find out a week later that they still used my work and a Chinese teacher was teaching the class!  I am very unhappy and disappointed about this!

Change does not always equal progress.

A: "... through ..."?  Only "through" comes to mind is "Shenzhen agent can connect you with an employer, who's authorized to hire waigouren ... and can sponsor Z visa." It's not like every 10th person you meet in Shenzhen's hood can sponsor work visa ...  The only way to change from student to labourer visa is just a regular way by: 1. Finding an employer, who'll apply for an Invitation letter; 2. Exit China and apply for Z visa in your home country's Chinese embassy; 3. Enter China in 30-days after Z visa was stamped into your travelling instrument ...As I am aware, you won't be able to switch to Working permit by remaining in China....,so make ready for a return to your home .... -- icnif77
