Q: which brand of chinese yogurt is the best?
Haven't been able to find any decent yogurt in Chinese markets..they all seem to be too watery. Anyone know which yogurt is closest to western standards? Looking for Greek yogurt consistency...
We can buy yogurt from Kowloon Dairy. Checks out OK. But perhaps not available too far away from Kowloon.
In my mind it is not just the watery state it is in, it is also too loaded with sugar.
Consider making ut yourself. It is actually not that difficult. You need milk and some yogurt culture. You can buy a "yogurt maker" on Taobao, all it does is keep your milk at a controlled "warm" temperature while the bacteria do their stuff. Then add honey, fruit or whatever you like to get some flavor. You control the consistency by the time you let it sit in the pot.
You won't achieve 'Greek consistency', even if you make yogurt by yourself as Scan suggested. For 'Greek' you need the highest fat (Western) milk, which isn't available in China.
I was making yogurt in Fuk., from farmers 'real' cow's milk. I boiled milk (to kill SOME of the bacteria), and added few spoons of yogurt two hours later to the chilled (+30*C) milk. Dish should be covered during the whole process.
If you use ordinary dish to make yogurt, whole process will take a bit longer, than if you use 'yogurt maker'.
Ordinary dish should be kept on warm spot (25 -30*C) to match 'yogurt maker'. If not, you need some 2 days till milk became yogurt.
I stopped buying milk from the farmers, because I figure it out, farmers probably add 'powder milk' to the cow's milk. Finished yogurt would stick to the spoon, similar as very, very thick spit. No yogurt I drank before was similar to that. Something was definitely added to the Fuk. cow's milk.
I buy my yoghurt from a creepy old man. I just bring a small container and he goes into a shed for a few minutes. Then he comes out with a smile on his face and a cup of yoghurt. He must use some kind of machine because I hear funny noises almost like a moaning sound. The yoghurt is usually warm though. It tastes salty too. I think he needs to clean the machine though as there was a hair in it last time.

I always shake the containers as some yogart is thin, some thick, I like thick, date flavour usually.

No, I like any fruit. Even lemon! If you lick lemon in front of the trumpet player, he/she can't play/blow anymore....because saliva appear in his/her mouth? Do you fancy Miles Davis? CD or I pod won't do it. You must go to the live concert

pina colada is a flavour, it is pineapple and coconut mixed together, pina colada is adjective to noun yogart
Chinese yogurt contains bovine growth hormones, antibiotics, and pesticides. There are no organic options for Chinese yogurts, but many of the upscale supermarkets sell organic milk for both children and adults. I drink this and also take acidophilus tablets.

Who believe that title 'organic product' reflect 'real stuff' in China or anywhere else? I don't believe, it's really 'organic' not even in the West.
'Organic' is just higher price.
E.g.
At my farm:
1. 'total equality between my chickens' is very important for every farmer: 'all chickens get fed the same food'!
2. 'prepare my stickers: 'organic' and 'free range/not that organic'';
3. 'at return to my private shed (no chicken allowed to enter) with basket full of eggs, I sort eggs to 'big' and 'smaller' ones!;
3. 'I (always) look behind my shoulders, if my privacy is not disturbed. Chinese are famous for 'infringement'!;
4. Use 'organic' sticker for the smaller size eggs, and 'free range' for the bigger ones.
5. Put sorted eggs in two baskets (organic first!) into my rickshaw.
6. Ride my vehicle (always with the helmet) to the outdoor market.
7. I wait till you approach, and sell you the healthiest eggs in the whole, wide World, for the highest price than 'free range' eggs.
In China, 'truth' and 'sincerity' are not that important. It's no different in USA, where 'customer comes first' apply to all services.
Your 'happiness' will do the trick!
