Southern China seems to generally have more crime. At least from what I hear.

I would suggest a city like Hangzhou, Dalian or perhaps even Xian.

Come about an hour south to Zhongshan. A small city, but if you aren't a party animal it is pretty good.

Apartments are affordable, not much crime other than petty stealing and great access to Hong Kong, Macau and China.

I married and bought an apartment here. The slower lifestyle suits me just fine.

Let me help you deal this problem.

Sir , Guangzhou is one of the safe cities. I think you are not willing to believe   because you girl suffers from bully and robbing . Liwan is one of the old districts , there are many poor men from other less developed provinces ,one of the reasons why there are so many crimes . It's similar to LA, at night , many  African-Americans(not racism) carry a  guy to rob. I suggest you and your girl  live in Tianhe district   and don't walk along. Tianhe is a more developed district with less crime .

I am so sorry to you and your girlfriend .Please keep your eyes on around every moment at night

I've lived in Jinan the past two years and I've only felt in danger from the traffic. Cost of living here is really cheap and there are still tons of western amenities to be had.  I wouldn't say it's the cleanest city in China but the people here are extremely friendly.  They are actually known as the friendliest in China.

A:It happened to me, once ... in 2014 or 15 ...Plane from RP city (Tianjin) had more than 10h delay and I came to the HK's exit Luohu some 7 hours after the RP expiration day.In real, I came to the exit crossing just on time or only an hour late, but Luohu is closed overnight (10pm - 6am), which I didn't know. There were two unexpected things happened at that exit: flight's delay with closed Luohu overnight on the topI had a decent and real excuse for the cops next morning, but still I was put in a side office for some 3 or 4h and then cops had a short lecture with '.. and make sure, it will never happened again! ..', and I was let go without anything on my record. At least, at the new Z visa application and following reentry to China nobody ever mentioned anything about the delayed exit. However, I had a bad, un-eased feeling at the following Z visa appearance in Wanchai ...It is much, much wiser and safer to exit at least a day or few ahead of the RP expiration date. -- icnif77
