No, no-one talks trash about the UK. Smile

I think you've accidently hit on something here. I think its the inverse, the Chinese people or their government aren't too bothered what most other countries get up to as long as we leave them alone to develop their country however they should choose. (In recent history other countries haven't always respected their boundaries, so please don't comment about innovation/theft, no country is perfect.)

Historically as well I believe whilst the European nations were expanding overseas and colonizing other lands, the Chinese had already traveled extensively by sea and merely just exchanged gifts etc, they weren't particularly interested in colonizing and exploiting new resources, they were content with their lot, their kingdom.

Nowadays, in some African countries, as far as I'm aware China are going for a much more co-operative approach to 'colonizing'/investing/making money. I think in the future Africa may for the first time in a long team reap the rewards and China could find another lucrative market to trade with.

So, no, I think the Chinese are pretty ambivalent when it comes to other countries, as long as we leave them alone!!!

I've thought about your comment and I think I actually agree with you on this one.  I haven't seen any signs of colonization aspirations by the Chinese.   Of course, this is still a "third world" developing country.  Perhaps a little real power combined with the continued population problem will drive them in that direction, but as you wrote, history has proven the Chinese to be rather passive on the matter.

Cheers Xinyuren, only time will truely tell what they'll do. There's the possibility that other countries actions/political tactics pushes them into something as well.

A country is nicely regarded by China as long as it is not giving China trouble.

There are no high regards I think. It is usually for superficial reasons; for example France being so romantic (because of Paris), Ireland being a beautiful country, Italy for having delicious food, Cuba for cigars (And a communism), and Venuzeula for being a model of effective Socialism.

I guess the USA was once highly regarded as an Economic superpower, but now its a competition. The UK for being a world influence, but now...

Spot on as well I believe...... UK's excellent universities :)

I think it is probably Singapore. They admire the U.S.A. but disagree with it's policies. It really depends on who you talk to. Chinese are just like westerners on a question like that. It would be a wide variety of opinions.

I can tell you that it is in no way Japan!

I think it really depends on who you ask and what their educational background is.
