Q: Which Medicines are good to have at home for Dog Puppy?

Hi,

My Puppy "King"  has growing up well now and there is no any issue with his health.

He is Pure Breed Alaskan , not husky.

Age of : 3 months.

He just got it's first vaccination by My Pet Doctor, Good experienced person & also can talk to me in English.

He also suggested me that don't use Chinese medicines or made in china foods for your puppy's better growth, even he is shanghai person he suggested it. no offense.

I would like to ask that Does anyone has purchased imported medicines for your pet?

My relatives will come to China from India, so I can ask them to bring some medicines which I can keep at home for future general use.

Thanks for your advices..

I have a dog and I don't keep medicine at home for my dog. When I take my dog to the vets they give me a choice of medicines/vacinations such as a western made medicine or.a chinese made medicine. I would recommend the western medicine, it costs more but it is more effective. As for the food it takes a while to find a decent quality food. Even well known brands such as pedigree chum have terrible quality foods out here. I actually wrote a letter of complaint to them over the difference in quality of the uk/china foods. They just gave me a blanket bs answer. I would try looking on taobao for food. It is a bit cheaper so you will save money over the years.

I don't recommand to buy any of kind of foods for your high breed puppy.

Better to use Hills (Science Diet) or Orijen company's Pet Foods.

My friend's friend sold me 3 Kg ScienceDiet Foods for Puppies at 158 yuan.

What about worming tablets and flea powder?

I think it would be worth asking your family to bring that over.

Worming tablets, we used Chinese made, we are not giving them as regularly as the vet suggests (I think they say once per month)

Flea Powder as ScotsAlan suggests. Iød go for Frontline Vet or such product, much much easier to use, you simply empty a small bottle onto the dogs back, and it will keep it free of fleas for 1-3 months depending on product.

For both worm and flea treatment, you need to make sure the dosage is correct for the aimal.

Our dog oly gets imported dog food, it can be gotten from Taobao, our vet also sells it. It is about twice the price of the dog food in supermarkets. We get dog food specifically for the breed of dog we have.

There is no other need for medicines. Dogs are generally strong as long as you feed them well. Don't give them too much crap. Do some research about what food is good, there are different opinions. I would actually feed our dog home cooked food  had we not been in China, but what a butcher back home sells as crap specifically for dogs/animals, is here sold as people food, thus more expensive and my mother in law who sometimes takes care of the dog would not be able to administer food this way. Instead, dry dog food, I have a plastic cup that fits the daily need.

In terms of feeding, make sure your dog doesn't get fat. They will have the same health problems people have, with heart issues, diabetes etc. Although they might keep eating, a dog doesn't need to be full all the time. We only feed the dog 6 days per week (and believe you me, on the 7th day, we have the cutest, most alert and nice dog, he is on his best behavior when hungry)

Be aware that some "human" medicine will kill your dog, e.g. some painkillers will be very bad for it's liver whereas others will work.

Lord_Hanson writes that "Pedigree" is a well known brand, that might be, but it is also really crap. You might as well take the dog to McDonalds each day. The nutritional value is low.

Science Diet has not been a good food for years, used to be breeders choice, then went to shit.

Your pup should have vaccinations at 6, 9, 12 weeks not first at 3 months.

I use 'Revolution'' applies to skin, kills flea, ticks, intestinal worms, heart worm. Ticks are becoming a big problem in Canada. My dog caught Lyme Disease.

jatin143:

Hi,

Glad to hear your comments.

I use Drontal Tablet for that. My vet checked it & said it is no problem to use.

How much & from where did you get this medicine?

And for Diarrhea, I used Indian medicine of 1/4 part & it helped him. I saw today morning that his Diarrhea looks fine now, no more liquid. and also as Dr said don't give him food for 24 hours, i did give a very little at last night. then after saw today he is fine, I gave me little bit food.

And also my dad said so I checked that Yogurt is good remedy for Diarrhea so I gave it last night to King(My dog). It seems it worked out.

I love people who buy Alaskan or Husky and trying to "make dogs happy" at such a hot weather, where there is no snow in winter and no free place to run for dog. My uncle back home have owned one, and I remember he said, that almost daily he have to take him for long runs ... he sit in a car a sprint beside his dog, Roy Smile we long winter and summer not that how as here, so it is sure much better enviroment than Shanghai polution drived sticky moisty air with 30 degs for 4 month in row and 0 snow in winter.

Your Pure Breed would die before this winter. But some mixed, with parents already lived in such conditions, may survive longer. Good luck
