Q: Which newspapers are more trustworthy, if any at all?
A top user on this site has stated that he thinks western media produces more accurate articles and news. Given the recent revelations by the British Guardian and the US Washington Post about NSA spying. What are we to make of their systematic and some would say timely release of NSA operations information given to them by Mr Snowden. Is it possible that they could be accused of treason?

If you compare "western" media with Chinese, then the Chinese will always fail due to the fact that reporting is done under censorship and journalists rarely do any critical reporting.
I am not sure the fact that the Snowden story was "timely released" means anything.
I picked up the China Daily yesterday and almost laughed my face off - there was a lengthy article that went into detail about the quality of bean curd at some supermarket. It was written as if it was some big deal and used all kinds of fancy words for I can only assume isn't a pressing matter (and I'm a vegetarian). This was on page 2 of the paper.
I often wonder how the foreign editors get by at working at these state own media outlets.
Regarding reliable newspapers about China, I tend to go with the South China Morning Post.
It's called freedom of speech and a free press unlike here.
The fact that these papers broke the story when others may have sat on the intel shows how transparent and accurate they really are.
The western media will always be swayed in their "opinions" about news and events as result of the corporate ownerships' interests but none the less...if you think Chinese media can even compare I think you should lay off the Kool-Aid.
BTW I read the SCMP daily. Like darkstar1 above said...I always laugh my ass off when I get a copy of the China Daily and would never waste my time to read anything online by them.

is it me or is this nut job asking the wrong questions? so snowden was suppsed to contact every single newspaper in the free world? he contacted the media outlets hedid . then other media outlets rerun the story. just because he spoke to those newspapers does not mean they are the only ones covering it.

Is there such a thing as 'free press' anywhere in the world? There's probably some sort of hidden agenda with the Guardian, the British government, can if they wish put a 'D' notice on the story. ( D notice = complete censorship). Why don't they? I assume that the same applies in the USA? So who is allowing this to happen?

chinese education is truly pucked up. why would the uk censor a story about the nsa? you do understand they are different countries? i mean completely different stories. and you would assume wrong. the us govt cant censor a story. they can ask nicely, "do not publish this now"

The Washington Post is a US newspaper, but not into treason?
NSA and GCHQ two very big players in the spying game, they are like two peas in the same pod, they have been assisting each other for decades. This story is a very big embarassment for the UK government. The British people are used to being spied on by their own and by their enemies but not by their so called closest friends. What the bloody hell is the world coming to? BTW, their spying equipment is still in use in Hong Kong, being used by the Chinese.
oh and another thing. why would the british paper be charged with treason?

Because it's the newspaper that's publishing the information and choosing when to do it. They've had this scoop for weeks, maybe months and they are certainly helping this bloke to hide. Did you read the adbusters article, perhaps you should try with an open mind.

the gaurdian is a uk paper. the story is about the usa's nsa. you do understand that the uk and usa are not the same countries. if i sell russian secrets to canada or vice versa (i'm american) why would America prosecute me for treason?

Because, Crimo, there are only two countries in the whole world: China and "Foreigner". UK paper prints a story about US secrets, then the US "has " to execute/charge the UK with treason.
Uberkind, you DO know that the UK, while a close ally of the US, is NOT part of the USA? It is an independent country?

and this idea that the nsa/cia is working hand in hand with mi6 (whatever the brits counterpart) is is childish. real life ain't the movies. every country shares info that they discovered throughspying with a country of interest . example: russia gave the usa the heads up on the boston bombers, but i guess because they did not download songs illegally , it was not important enough for the fbi to go after them.
Probably South China Post or anything printed in HK.
China Daily is OK for swatting flies. Can't really think of many other uses for it. I even check the sports results on the internet after reading them in the China Daily just in case they have been "manipulated".
