Q: which one do you support? Natural Birth or Caesarian?

In China, most women prefer Caesarian to avoid the extreme pain of child birth. But In western countries, women seem to prefer Natural Birth which is great.

How do you feel about it?

Natural birth has many advantages for both the mother and the baby.

For the mother:

-She doesn't get a scar across her belly (C-section causes this), so she can enjoy wearing bikini at the beach, if she wants to do so in the future ..

-In the case she has to have other babies in the future, there is less risk for pregnancy complications since her uterus (womb) is not damaged.

For the baby:

- He/she learns first lesson of life, which is LIFE IS FULL OF STRESS, there is nothing more stressful than being squeezed through the birth canal on the way to the outside world, that is why many babies cry immediately after birth expressing how much they want to get back in the womb and never come out again, LOL ( just a joke).

-Natural birth helps expand the lungs of the newborn, thus making it easier for the baby to breathe naturally after birth.

Those are some of the things that make me think natural birth is better, plus it is cheaper and also requires shorter stay in hospital.

Having said that, I would have given my wife the final decision, since she is the one who has to go through the pain, and her choice is always to be respected.

I prefer which ever one my wife tells me to prefer.  :)

Honestly, I do not think there is anything wrong with either method.  But if I had to choose one over the other, I would choose the Caesarian method since there is slightly less complications if it is done in a proper hospital.

My wife chose a c-section.  The whole procedure for the twins took less than 10 minutes.  Recovery from a c-section can take longer and is more painful in the recovery process.  At least that is what the doctors told me.

Until I myself have to force a baby out of an orifice I don't think it matters.

Hehe, a former female colleague of mine once said to all the men present, imagine urinating a water melon, (her language was a bit more vulgar than that but...), while I don't think the scale is accurate it did paint a mental picture amongst most  of us.

My wife tried for a natural birth little over a year ago and went through a day of labour at which point she was ready for the birth, but there were complications so it went to a caesarian. Now she's pregnant again and we're both glad at least that when the time comes she can just go and get unzipped, plain and simple. The zipper's already in place.

In other words, that's a nice friendly offer, but you might find it's wasted on me, i'm an awful student:)

对了,不要老是说你的中文不好,自信一点哦,因为你也不喜欢听到中国人说,我们的英语很差之类的。至少我可以看得明白你说的,这就足够了。慢慢提升吧。

Natural birth is more natural, so in my opinion, that's how it's supposed to be. However, even natural births aren't in the natural position these days, so it's questionable how natural they really are. I've heard that having a baby in water is also a good option. I'd only get Caesarian if there was some kind of complication that would make a natural birth dangerous or impossible.

Natural.

I am not sure it is Chinese women who prefer c-section as much as it is the hospital system here that are pushing as many pregnant women through as possible. What mArtiAn writes is not an uncommon story, there is no need to try for natural birth at any cost.

I do not like Chinese women's complete inability to do a bit of self sacrifice, nor do I think it is fair to them that the society is telling them what an incredible painful experience it is. The high number of people being baby formula is also a sign that women are not prepared to do for their children what is best. Maybe in countries where women get more than one child, the experience conveyed is different as second time is easier (unless the first time was via c-section)

In the article Scandinavian mentioned, caesareans are a source of income for the Chinese hospitals, so they will continue to promote them whether needed or not.

C sections are major operations, and in my opinion, should be avoided unless there is danger to the mother or child. C sections are dangerous, would you choose to have your appendix removed if it wasn't necessary?

Neither. Too many damn people on this planet already. I wonder if in the future it will become like a real-life horror movie. Most all resources depleted and 10,000,000,000 competing for them by whatever means (ultra-violence).

How do we provide housing, food, water, education, employment, medical care for 10 billion people ?

I have heard that in our present-day, there are people hiking miles through mountains (West China) to get a bucket of potable H2O.

I like the idea of a natural birth. The recovery time is shorter which makes me think that its better for my wife physically (and for me emotionally and mentally). Plus, my wife really should be the first one to bond with are son or daughter. That said, it isn't my body. If she says she wants a c-section, then that's what she'll have.

all our kids were Natural and healthy

so I guess it depends on the circumstances like the others have said

like many things in life it boils down to what you are comfortable with

and what is safe for you and your child

maybe when the time comes  you might want to go to some birthing clinics .

Also come to Aus and talk to them about your options

I'm sure your husband  cares about you and the baby's health and well being

and to be a part of it so don't leave him out

good luck to you

maggiegirly:

very true,Honestly,Husband prefers natural ,but it's all up to me,He respects my decision.

We just want a safe birth.

Do they have epidurals in China? Are they administered frequently?  If so, then natural + epidural would be my choice, provided no other complications were in place.

The way the hospitals and doctors just sort of default to a C-section lets you know they're in it for the money, not necessarily for the health of the mother and child.

ask any young girl in China about having a baby and the subject of pain during delivery will come up really quickly. repeat in your home country, it will be less so. it is a society issue that is has become the norm to do a caesarian

XJohn above is correct on the recovery after the operation.

Delivery method aside. Step 2. after baby is born is now, in western countries, to lie on mummy's naked stomach to bond, this will make the baby know where he/she belongs, and it will be the first step in successfully getting going on breastfeeding. If mummy is knocked out on drugs with a big cut in her abdomen, then this is nt going to fly. Second best option is for baby to hang on daddy's stomach until mummy is conscious again, this will help baby bond, but will not do anything for the breastfeeding process.
