Was gonna go for a run this afternoon, looked out the window at the stagnant grey smog-filled sky, and thought to myself, "what's the point?"
Scientifically speaking, is it any more/less healthy to go running in nasty air pollution than it is to just sit indoors in front of my air purifier while drinking a beer and watching tv?

It is healthier to sit inside, watch TV and drink beer. You must drink more beer, to supress radioactive waves TV emits. Make sure, your ceiling was also refurbished recently.
All in the name of science!
I have no idea about good health, I spent all last night drinking brandy, slept for three hours, saw my wife and kid off on the train to her folk's place and have been drinking brandy since. Just about to go out and get another bottle.
Healthy living is over-rated. Alcoholism is in this autumn. Who cares if you wake up shaking from time to time and can't perform sexually, and get strange pains in your lower back (just a little to the right), and maybe see stuff that's not there sometimes, and lose business contracts because they showed you pictures of their kids on a bender and you said they looked like monkies, and...........shit.........I gotta stop drinking.

Well I am exaggerating, but not as much as I would like to be. My son is 9 months old and I have no intention of having him raised by a drunk. It's a change i'm making and 'despite that fucking idiot Matt something or other who was whining on here about the 'genetic illness' of alcoholism a while back' I know it's a change I can make. I'm already making it.
As someone who just spent his last year of university drinking beer every day and avoiding exercise at all costs, I'd say it's definitely more healthy for you to go for a run, I packed on 20lbs last year.
You can live with asthma, you can't live long with heart problems. On top of that I don't think being a fat guy is a status symbol in China like it is in other countries, so could you live without sex too?
Of course, I'm writing this literally minutes after I decided to pass on run and have a beer instead., so who am I to give advice?
Cheers!
i studied environmental science and i can tell you its better not to exercise in pollution. what you can do is stay inside and workout there. when exercising your body needs vast amounts of oxygen. when exercising in pollution free radicals penetrate your blood stream more and faster because the intake of oxygen is more. stay inside and do push ups , sit ups or just lift weights. no exercise is healthier than exercising in pollutions. good luck
not exercising at all is not good, pollution won't hurt you, just don't roll in toxic chemicals.
If you are worried, I would stay in, drink beer and hire a workout partner. Nothing like sexercise to get you motivated.
lol do you really need to ask this question, its not like you can avoid going outside you have to go outside sooner or later but its very important that you exercise since your eating this greasy food everyday and maybe drinking lol its advisable since you dont get to see you doctor back at home that often
Exercise outside is still better than no exercise. Your body still needs that physical workout, just because there's pollution and negative side effects that go along with exercising outside doesn't mean it's better for your body to have no workout at all.
Like other's suggested though, exercising indoors is your best option if you live somewhere with heavy pollution outside.
