Can you post a link to your PHD thesis here?
I assume it is based on ESL. In that case you probably qualify for an R visa. Under the new ABC system, you would get an A for your PHD
Under the ABC system, if you are a PHD, they wont even check you documents. You are a desired person. No matter where you are from. You are an A.

Dear ScotsAlan,
Thank you for your prompt reply.
At present there is no direct link to my Ph.D thesis. I have Ph.D in English linguistics, with more than 8 years of experience in ESL Education, teaching English as a foreign/second language. At present, I'm not in China. But, I am seeking a teaching position there, if possible. I'm not sure if as a non-native I would be able to?
ScotsAlan:
I doubt it very much. If you had a PHD in English you would very fluently have told me to fuck off
But wait.... That is an interesting point.Would your culture prevent you from saying that?
Interesting point. I suspect you are from India. Different culture, different methods,
