Q: Who are more racist - Chinese or 'westerners'?
That's a serious question.... (and I know, even asking such a question is racist - as it will require answering based on stereotypes or personal experiences with individuals, and then a generalisation to entire groups... usually negative!)
But, in reading so many posts on here, there is so much bagging going on (usually towards China, but that'll just be the numbers of expats compared to the number of locals), and a lot of flag-waving.
So many posts/comments/threads are just "Chinese are...", "'Oh yeah, well all Merikan's are..." (sometimes, the English get blamed for something - usually the colonialism of a couple of centuries ago - and Canada - if a Canadian jumps in to the fray - and sometimes even Aus, NZ or SA... odd how Ireland and Scotland get left alone!! 
)
Even some of my own posts and comments are racist... and don't really reflect the personal experiences I've had with my Chinese friends and colleagues (or students) - but, as I work in tertiary education, and don't mingle with many outside of that field, perhaps I've got a slanted view...
So, your SERIOUS thoughts on this topic?
From my experience I would say that Chinese are far more racist. They are also far more elitist in how they rate or treat people based purely on their wealth and conections.
In saying this I also have some empathy for why this is so, because while it exists it also existed in a much more overt way in many western countries in the not so distant past.
Thankfully many of us got to grow up in a more enlightend era, when this baseless type of prejudice has little bearing on the friends I keep and the decisions I make.
Don't know if it will happen but I hope China or the Chinese people will soon start to improve on the way they perceive all people.

I think culture plays a large role in racist views.
I see China now like America was 50 years ago.
Things are getting better, but on a scale, there are many more racists here than at home.
I think most of the Chinese views on race are learned and not experienced. The propaganda machine here is at all levels, starting with parents, manipulated education and bombardment of idealogical media driven by strategic agendas and control.
I judge people by character, not by opinions, as opinions now are too easy to manipulate, whether in China or anywhere else.
If a child is raised from a baby to believe that all non muslims need to convert or die, then unless they learn the truth somewhere else, they will accept this as truth.
Learning to be racist is no different.
china hands down everywhere else in the world they are trying to adopt equality and human rights. everywhere else people mix without much trouble, here they are resistant. they ignore racial troubles and discrimination practices. here companies openly discriminate with no problem.

Hi crimo. Chill comments. Speaking of Chinese companies, I've been encouraged by a Chinese gal to get on with such a company. But damn, I've read so many NEGATIVE comments about said companies that now I'm very reluctant. Oh well.
I remember this question asked to a Chinese university student girl once, then she answered that Chinese are not racist, because they don't have black people in China.
You have to remember that China was referred to the Middle Kingdom, but with the meaning that it was at the center of the world and anybody outside this kingdom was considered a "barbarian".
This concept has not yet vanished and was strenghten when the Communists took power since 1949.
To to be called "racist", you would at first need to have a contact with the outside world and then make up your mind. For Chinese, it's not the case, as the world outside China is of second or no importance. As for the foreigners who come to China, they are kind of representatives from their countries coming to pay tributes to China.
This word doesn't exist, but I would qualify Chinese of "discriminationist", as they like to discriminate Chinese according to their origins (countryside vs city), their profession (ayi vs white-collar), their hukou (Hefei vs Shanghai), the color of their skin (tanned vs white), their social status (poor vs rich) and so on.
As for me, I would say I am very often considered racist, xenophobist, because I would tend to generalize a nation or people by saying "Blacks are...", "American are..", "Muslim are...", "Chinese are..."etc, while I tend mainly to emphasize that not all of them, but a great majority of them are like that. I am more "idiotphobist", which sometimes are ruling the world.

Since they are the inhabitants of the Middle Kingdom, why would they care about what other countries or people think about them? So, even less to think that maybe other countries look down on them. For that, you need news that show other countries' opinions of China for Chinese to consider people looking down on them....but not only the nice opinions, also the bad ones.....and Chinese TV or newspaper will not never ever report that.

Both are the same, the difference is westerners discourage it. Saying racist things back home gets you looks and glares depending on your company. Here no one cares.
you need to have contact with people to learn that even though they are from somewhere else (and oftentimes, just their ancestry is from somewhere else, not them), they are still a full person. Americans get blamed for being really racist, but that's just because we actually interact with a variety of cultures everyday. Most other countries are much more homogenous, and hemegeny brings assumptions about others.
That being said, although I am discriminated against here in China (people make assumptions about me and stare at my non-Chinese features), I think I'm treated pretty well for the most part and have no complaints.
Everyone is racist, its a natural tendency maybe hard wirde over millenia to "protect ones group" against another.
Of course our" better angels" decry and resist this tendency.
China folks = Racis.t Just ask the Han Chinesewhat they think of mongolians, or tibetians, or Uighurs if ya dont believe. Or ask the aforementioned groups about the Han Chinese.
EU, AU and American folks = Racist (even the black ones)
And me married to a white lady, then to a black lady and now to a Chinese lady = Racist!

I think if you are a visable minority , then you are not racist. The majority portion of the population can be racist. This is what it is like in Canada. The blacks come here and hate us. If we say anything even about the crime levels going up, then we are racist. Now in many Canadian cities caucasians are minority. hmmm I just noticed the word asian in caucasian. Are we white asians?

In Calgary, non-white minorities make up about 8% of the population. Toronto over twenty (almost half of which is black), Montreal 26%, Vancouver 51%, Ottowa 8%, Edmonton 22%. I can personally attest that practically any city smaller than that (except Vancouver satellites like the above-mentioned Richmond)is Lilly-white or Native. I've also travelled the country extensively for work reasons. That's pretty white considering CANADA ISN'T EUROPE IT'S NOT THE WHITE HOMELAND. Now please keep going on about how not-racist you are.

Ted...being a minority or a majority has nothing to do with being a racist. People are racist in all cultures, countries and skin colors...makes no difference....that's a very bad excuse. kchur...I'm guessing Ted is from close to Toronto, which has much different demographics. It's not just Richmond....have you been to north Surrey or south Vancouver?

Toronto for sure is less that 50% white now, has been for years. Brampton looks like it's 99% non white. I think Van may be also be minority white.

I'm in Victoria right now and it is the whitest place I've ever seen in my life. And the BC interior is pretty much all whites and natives (my town, growing up, had one Chinese family and one east Indian family, that's it). For some reason, I've never had much reason to spend time in the Vancouver area, except Richmond, so I still have this weird view of BC not having a lot of non-native minorities.
Everyone is racist. It's just that the Westerners know how to use more social tact and not say everything that comes to their mind.
In the states I'm female first, Black 2nd, American last. In China, I am Black...thats it. I think the comments prove that everyone is a little rascist and there are stereotypes people can't/won't ignore. I find it interesting how people see others but don't really see themselves. I think if you read through the comments on this site alone you'll see that everyone is racist. Some a little more than others.

you forgot to mention that the driver , after realizing he ran her over, continued to finish the process and ran her over with the back wheels. i've seen people get shot, stabbed and some horrific accident scenes but that by far was the most disturbing thing i have ever saw. at least 20 random locals were surveyed that day. (the most honest survey possible, based on their actions) the survey question was "do you have an once of humanity?" just one out of at least 20 people surveyed that day answered yes. (the camera did not catch everyone who saw the little girl get hit and lieing there bleeding) according to that survey 0.5% of the locals have a sense of humanity. i think it is accurate others mention similiar experiences. i read someone talking about seeing a crowd of locals gathered around an aussie who had an accident on his bike and was out unconcious. they were gathered around giggling and laughing. (the foreigner who saw this got him into a cab and to the hospital) look at the story of the local who fell into west lake, the only person to jump in and save her was a woman from urugauy.

Pretty hard to decipher this, but are you argueing about Chinese being racist and then making a point that there are white Africans (Africans are people from Africa. Who give a fk what race they are). I also get the feeling that you think the white ones you talk about are somehow better.

This is not a good question. It's like asking who's crazier? Chinese or Westerners? Everyone is crazy but the level of craziness varies from person to person. Everyone is racist, they just don't know it. I'm a black African and I admit I used to have some stereotypical, (even boardering on racist) views about certain places and people because I disn't know better then. But I'd never air them out loud. ''It's better to be silent and be thought an fool, than to open your mouth and remove all doubt.'' Now I'm older and much more exposed. I don't harbor any racist sentiments. It's all about exposure and education. So I'll conclude that Westerners are less racist than Chinese due to more exposure to the rest of the world. But some Westerners also tend to carry themselves with an air of superiority. I can call that disguised racism. So, to generalize Chinese as being racist is unfair. I've met a great deal of ignorant Chinese but an even greater number of really cool and down to earth ones.
