Q: Who is versed in the use of wechat? How is it done?

I've heard wechat is a good tool to meet new people, but I've only used it with people I already know/have phone numbers for. However people, both my Chinese and foreign friends alike tell me it's a powerful dating tool as well... any wechat tips? Any success/failure stories?

Assuming you have the latest version on your phone....

1. Hit "Discover" at the bottom

2. Then hit "People Nearby"

3. Set your options via the button in the upper right corner (looking for men, women, both...or "clear data and exit" after some crazy lady finds you)

4. ??? Profit

If you're fluent in Chinese, take your pick.  If you're not, start out asking if they can speak English.  For me, it's pretty boring to go on a date where the communication has to get dumbed down to my super elementary level of Chinese.  Usually just ends up being a date with google translate (also boring).  Also, use some common sense.  If the girl's photo(s) are glamour shots or supermodel-ish, you can guess the real deal will be a far cry from that.  Oh, beware of hookers.  These are more common on Momo than WeChat/Weixin....but still.
