some guys think they are better and superior than Chinese people and they think their countries are better and their life is better...BUT STILL LIVE HERE......is that normal?......or.....is it just an act of empty arrogance and ignorance?
still claiming to be British with grammar like that?
You're question is also super Chinese. "Why you foreigner complain? Why you no like? You no like, you go home!"
Classic ignorant rhetoric. Go hang out with Yang Rui and leave us alone.
People go where there are economic opportunities. China has economic opportunities, hence people. Some things are good, some are bad. Western society tends to actually complain about the bad in an attempt for positve change, instead of trying to save face and harmonize, where everything just devolves. If you don't like it, I suggest that an Expat forum in English probably isn't for you.
Why 'China' and not China?
Anyway, What you mean? We are not only superior...
P.S. Life in my country is not better or worse, is just different. Stating differences is not always complaining.
Oh god! Is this Mattie or just his equally pathetic twin
I get it now! You’re a Chinese English teacher with a Masters in English, well-done!
What is it the grim realization that you will only make 2500 RMB a month for the rest of your life or some big cocked foreigner gave your girlfriend a lay she could not forget?
Wow it has made you bitter.
HappyExPat:
Two things I have noticed now that Mattie is on vacation. ......
1.- Juliu.he or whatever his name is is back.
2.- Thumbs down are back.
It was nice while it lasted
Some Chinese people think they're always right and that they know everything, nothing beats Chinese culture.
People who think they're better than Chinese just feel like they have more power here, in their home countries they're probably trampled on.
Maybe you need to man up and start standing up to the foreign bully.
money cheap booze dumb women.
to be clear
[Dumb Women] illiterate rural women with out degrees working in the city.
GuilinRaf:
I dunno about the "dumb women" part. I see quite a few of these "dumb women" walking away with a nice new house in their name that their "foreigner boyfriend" paid for....
Oh look, another thread by people who complain about people who complain!
"YOU FOREIGNER NO LICK CHINA ASS, WHY YOU NO GO HOME!"
No, I don't agree with this. I haven't met every foreigner in China but I do not find people who 'think they are superior' or that their western cultures back home are superior. I don't see issues with this.
I get the feeling the OP is trying to bait or inflame some kind of culture wars or antagonize contrived situations?
I HAVE run into a situation where Chinese have mistakenly believed that any criticism of anything Chinese is *therefore* a declaration that from the critic that their own nation is not only superior but perfect.
Someone mentioned this here: (timstp) " Western society tends to actually complain about the bad in an attempt for positve change, instead of trying to save face and harmonize, where everything just devolves."
This is something I've run into:
me: Yes, I'm enjoying my hotel but I hate that I have to boil water in China
Chinese interpret this as me deciding my country is superior to China and I am now saying China is a bad country and I think I'm so perfect.
But that aside: No, I don't run into foreigners who think they are 'superior' or anything like that.
I HAVE run into foreign language teachers in China who are these kind of 'anti-western' hating their own culture types. They could almost be 'Occupy Wall Streeters' back home. They think George Bush did 911 types. 'useful idiots' types.
Maybe the question should be turned around and "Why do so many Chinese have such an inferiority complex?" be asked instead.
Why is it that Chinese interpret almost every off beat comment or criticism as an insult to their "great country" or culture? People moan and whinge. People do this the world over. I did this in my own country, I have done it or other countries and I do the same in China. It is because nothing is perfect and people hate annoyance, especially the bad manners, inconvenience and delays etc. that occur in China.
However, Chinese people take such criticism so personally. It is not about the western ego. It is about the Chinese psyche, the down trodden race that they perceive themselves as being, the "we have always been the victim' mentality and "why does every other race of people hate us?' mentality.
You know what? OUr people may think their ways of doing things are superior...but the nationalistic Chinese like you are brainwashed into believing that you actually ARE better than other races. Which is clearly not true.
Createach:
I'm not from China.....just wanted to ask this question to know the reaction of people....THAT'S ALL
AM NOT CHINESE......ANYWAYS DOES IT MEAN IF ANYONE ASKS SOMETHING THAT TAKES THE SIDE OF CHINA IS A CHINESE?!!!!......IT IS A QUESTION THAT JUST NEEDS AN ANSWER....NO NEED TO VERBAL ATTACK PEOPLE....JUST ANSWER THE QUESTION AND IF YOU DO NOT LIKE THE QUESTION JUST IGNORE IT......WHY SHOULD I FEEL BAD EVERY TIME I ASK A QUESTION ON THIS FORUM?!!!!!.....TO SAY THE TRUTH I THOUGHT I WAS SUPERIOR SOMETIMES BUT I TRIED TO CHANGE AND RESPECT PEOPLE....BUT NOW SOME PEOPLE ON THIS FORUM PROVED THAT MY QUESTION WAS A GOOD ONE....CAUSE SOME OF YOU PROVED THAT...I WONDER WHY A CHINESE PERSON DID NOT ASK THIS QUESTION BEFORE I DID?...ANYWAYS THANK YOU ALL FOR PARTICIPATING...
Createach:
THIS IS A STATEMENT THAT REQUIRES HEAVY MACHINERY AND CAPS LOCK......LOL
Jnusb416:
Actually, you don't need caps lock or bold to get your point across. And I'm pretty sure a Chinese person has asked this at least once, if not several times, or perhaps they were related to this question. Did you try doing a search?
Createach:
Actually i did not do a search or anything....the question just came to me and i had to ask....i guess i asked the wrong people.....and yes i understand some people and i really do appreciate them one by one.....
tomcatflyer:
You say "am not Chinese" then would you mind telling us where you are from. We know it is not any country with English as the first language by the way you write. Even your comment here all in bold, which is the same as shouting, is typical Chinese behaviour. So where do you come from Mattaya, oops sorry I just couldn't tell the difference between you
1. If you were western, you wouldn't need to ask this question.
2. Those who do have delusions of grandeur stay in China because they are treated like rock stars, where as back home, they'd just be pimply faced geeks. It feeds their ego.
Createach:
I JUST SAW ARROGANCE REPRESENTED BY SOME GUYS AND I JUST WANT TO KNOW WHY................AND BEING A WESTERN DOES NOT MAKE ME ANY DIFFERENT FROM CHINESE PEOPLE SO I HAVE NOTHING TO SAY ABOUT THAT.......I REALLY DO APPRECIATE YOUR ANSWER.......
To be honest, in Guilin I encountered a LOT of this kind of people. Mostly older-middle-aged men (I know! I know! I'm 44!) who think that the West is great and that China "sucks" but they stay on and on and on......
It's difficult to take a country seriously when its chefs can't cook more than one plate of food at a time. Everything else falls into place from there.
I don't presume to be superior, but many Chinees act in ways every other nationality on the planet would think either rude or discusting. Who acts superior when they are pointing and whispering and giggling between them? I've been asked why foreigners don't like China. I explain using things like tea or food. I'm not used to the tea or food. The little red peppers make me cough and my nose run. Things are different here, I try to accept them. I'm always joking around and trying to have fun. I can make people laugh without speaking Chinees. I find too many Chinees to be rude and inconsiderate of others.
