Q: Why are the autumn red leaves such a big thing here?

I mean they're pretty and all, but it seems to be such a major event... Is there a special story connected to them or something?

It's like the peach blossums in the spring. It's something that has become a tradition and an excuss to get out of the city. Some villages only survive because of the money from tourism during these times.

Plus New Yorkers get out of the city to see the leaves change as well, and D.C. makes a big deal about its blossums.

same thing with "new england" in the states new yorkers love to drive north to see the leaves change. it has sth to do with city life and not being exposed to greenary. everyone is different and have their own tastes. i never cared for it but who cares to each his own
