Q: Why are Chinese dogs so well behaved... (as opposed to their owners) ?

I am from England and I have to wonder why are Chinese dogs so well behaved when compared to those I have seen back home ? How do they train these dogs ? It really is - to me at least - amazing !

Dogs back home bark at neighbors, but again the dogs back home are fenced in. We have dogs on each side of our house back home and although one dog is familiar with me the other is not. The dogs here in China are taken out more and the owners walk them more compared to those that I have seen in the states. That could be one reason. I used to take my dog for a walk too.

Now about the dogs being well behaved and the owners are not. That would be hard to say because each individual has his or her own lifestyle. Where as dogs usually have one lifestyle which is to be the companion of his owner and protect them from danger.

dogs are well behaved because they are over exposed to people. and people treat them like dogs not like family members. also they are seriously inbreed to the point where they do not have as much energy.

No, don't think it has anything to do with in breeding or being near many people. Think of a Chihuahua with his boss at the other end of the chain. A big German shepherd comes walking by and growls at the little chihuahua. In china the chihuahua turns tail and runs for his life and that is to be expected. But not so in the USA. In the USA the little chihuahua envisions his boss at the other end of the chain with his AK47 stuck up the butt of the German Shepherd who envisions the same thing and turns tail and runs. Everybody in USA has at least one revolver and one either shot gun or AK47. So the dogs behave like their owners. Mean. Tough.Shoot first, then shoot again, then again then again etc then if there is anyone left standing , shoot them and ask questions to the jury!

GuilinRaf:

Um, no.

While many Americans do indeed have a gun or more, most Americans do not have guns.  That is why this issue is so hotly debated. If all or even most of us had them, then we would not be debating this.

Now there are areas that tend have people with guns and areas where there are fewer people with them or who even want them. That is inevitable, as the US is such a big country, there is going to be a lot of variety.

Scandinavian:

It makes sense for a dog to chose an AK47. As dogs do not have opposing thumbs, handling any kind of weaponry will be prone to clumsiness. Most Russian designed military equipment  takes into account the rough nature and often very crude conditions Russian solders operate in. The AK47 can handle being dropped in a puddle of mud and still fire. Of course if it was a truly patriotic American dog, it would look bad, but on the other hand, what use would a dog have with a gun that cannot fire.

GuilinRaf:

Well, theoretically speaking, if I were an insurgent, I too would rather have an AK-47 for the simple reason that it is more common all over the world, so it would be easier to find ammo for it, in addition to its sturdiness as mentioned above.

For a sidearm, definitely a revolver. Automatic and semi automatic pistols tend to jam relatively easily and the springs on the clips render the clip useless if they break or rust.

Besides, if you are in an insurgency and your AK 47 is out of ammo and you need to rely on a handgun, you are probably up the creek....

....what is already said above... and then of course the fact that they are beaten.

I actually don't think dogs are well-behaved at all. Some are, but the majority aren't. When I walk our dog, he is always walking right next to me, why? He is on a leash. When we pass other dogs they might wanna play, if we don't want to play, then maybe they will just tag along. The owner will then start yelling at their dog to no use. This happens for me at least 5 times per day.

Todays fact gathering exorcize. Look up number of dog bites in China using a search engine of your choice. Then compare with whatever country you are from.

If you beat a dog it will bite. (although I think dogs should know to also bite their owners when they are dressed up like children or have their hair colored)

GuilinRaf:

I swear, some of those poor dressed up pooches actually look embarrassed to be seen in public....

Dogs need a leader an 'alpha male', in America (and I believe 'the west' in general) a lot of people see dogs as one of the family, to be loved, to be treated like children. This often messes with their heads (the dogs), because in the absence of an obvious 'alpha male' they will try to assume that role. Trouble is in a human dominated family / society this often leads to aggression in places we deem inappropriate.

In China more often the human in the family will take the obvious 'alhpa male' role (even if they aren't male), just because many of them don't view dogs in the same light as many 'westerners' and this suits the dogs better. Of course some Chinese take this too far and resort to beatings.

I hear the guy in the apartment above me beat his dog whenever it starts barking. I find it very disturbing, but maybe it keeps it well behaved (out of fear)?

I think it's because most of the dogs in China are small. So they don't really feel threatened most of their lives...hence no small dog complex.

Most of the pet dogs I saw in China were Golden Retrievers or Collies. These dogs are friendly ,passive dogs by breeding. A Golden is said to be a burglars best friend because they do not bark.  I used to see a guy with German Sheppard and they were better trained than any dog I ever had. Some of the people I met with Goldens bred them. They gave me cards, but they weren't in the best shape or the best examples, but there is a market for the dogs. My neighbors bred a miniature white dog and I was amazed at how much they sold for, can't remember how much, but alot more than I would pay at home for a dog. I paid $1200 for my Collie.

I met a group of people that got together each night to let their dogs play. The people were happy that I wanted to see their dogs and told me to come back. I think the dogs that are popular in China are just the ones with better dispositions and they get more exposure to people, so they are just friendly.

I never saw a dog higher than my ankle in China. where did you see all these goldens?

remember some cities have size restrictions on dogs, so in some places you would never see a Labrador or that size dogs.

True and I was in smaller places. I remembered that most dogs if I said sit and gave the sit sign became a little agressive, something my dog never shows.

Yes, it's amazing how much better behaved many dogs are here compared to the many,ill-mannered Chinese. Shock
