I think people in general have a habit of projecting the negative aspects of themselves onto others, and there's nobody easier to do so with than a foreigner.

Agree with above posts. People see what they want to see, and with the us-versus-them attitude being instilled at such a young age, it is not surprising that they think negative of foreigners.

Having lived in China for 5 years by now, I am still taken aback when some small child realizes I look different than the parents [or grandparents] and reacts with fear. In America no small child ever does this upon seeing another person who looks different.

It seems to me that such behavior is instilled by the parents or grand parents at an early age that any non- Chinese [or non-Asian] person is bad for looking different.  A sad thing indeed.

it makes for more interesting stories to talk about negative views of a particular group of people. People in China are as negative towards foreigners as people in other countries.

A:What is 'formal offer letter'? Only legally accepted employment offer I know is a Contract! ... so, you just don't accept and sign the contract with the lower salary! Email exchanges, verbal discussions and other promises between you and employer aren't legally binding, so legal action isn't recommended. Mainly legal effective thingy is employer's stamped and signed contract! ... and after you ink it, employer can/will use your signed contract to apply for all necessary documents at Chinese governmental agencies as Working permit and all ... It would be better for you to not accept employment with such an employer, IMO 'cause you'll experience similar troubles by employer not respecting the contract later on. -- icnif77
