Q: Why are chinese tomatoes so flavorless?

Not to be a jerk, but it seems like the type of tomato that is used in a majority of Chinese dishes lacks any flavor at all. The ones at the markets are not much better. Is there a certain kind of tomato that you can find here (beijing specifically) that tastes better?

NiceBrice, Chinese tomatoes are mostly grown using the hydroponic method.  For some reason, these tomatoes come out tasteless, truly so.  If you can find an open air market during the growing season in Beijing and if you are able to buy tomatoes grown on the land by small land farmers, these tomatoes will truly tasty.  It's seasonal, however, othewise, good luck.

Metro stores in Beijing carry land-grown tomatoes all year round but they are pricey out of season.

not only tomato, but most of the vegetables and fruits are genetically modified here to make it big rather than making it tastier and more nutritious..
they want o make it big because theri main aim is to increase the production from the same available land..
it is all about money honey..

I thought the tomatoes were grown to be less fragile ( more firm, less juicy) for shipping or else were not fully ripe. I never saw good tomatoes like ''beef steak'', but these ripen very quickly and don't last long.

A: "... through ..."?  Only "through" comes to mind is "Shenzhen agent can connect you with an employer, who's authorized to hire waigouren ... and can sponsor Z visa." It's not like every 10th person you meet in Shenzhen's hood can sponsor work visa ...  The only way to change from student to labourer visa is just a regular way by: 1. Finding an employer, who'll apply for an Invitation letter; 2. Exit China and apply for Z visa in your home country's Chinese embassy; 3. Enter China in 30-days after Z visa was stamped into your travelling instrument ...As I am aware, you won't be able to switch to Working permit by remaining in China....,so make ready for a return to your home .... -- icnif77
